Rezvani debunks Tesla Cybertruck’s bulletproof claims

Tesla vowed the world with the launch of its futuristic-looking Cybertruck. The all-steel body and Musk’s carefree hammer swings at the Cybertruck’s body at its launch further caused many to perceive it to be bullet-proof as well. However, when American carmaker Rezvani put this to the test, the Tesla Cybertruck could only deflect smaller fatal projectiles such as 9mm bullets from a handgun. The more lethal .223-cal rifle shot, AK-47 ammo, and 5.56 rounds proved to penetrate through the heavy stainless sheet body rendering the Cybertruck not ideal for the requirement of a bulletproof vehicle.

Enter Rezvani’s Tank tactical off-road vehicle and Vengeance luxury full-size SUV. Both are made from lightweight composite body armour mounted behind the exterior sheet metal, aiding it to procure the bulletproof tag with B6 ballistic protection accreditation. The approved protection level entails these Rezvani vehicles can fend off everything from a .22 and a .357 Magnum to 7.62 machine gun fire and penetrator rounds. Moreover, Rezvani’s glass is bulletproof to the same standard as the body armour, providing passengers with protection all around the car.

Further optional protection is also offered by Rezvani comprising center console safes and remote tire inflators. The top-spec safety is provided upon checking the Military trim level that equips B6 ballistic protection, bulletproof vests and helmets for all occupants, underbody explosive protection, a smoke screen system, run-flat tires, thermal night vision, reinforced suspension components, electrified door handles, electromagnetic pulse protection, and more.

Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo said, “We decided to change the name, even though we know that we are not required to do so, because we want to preserve the positive emotion that our products have always generated and avoid any type of controversy. The attention to our new sports compact that we’ve received the past few days is quite exciting as we had an unprecedented number of visits to the online configurator, causing the website to crash for a couple hours.”

In January last year, Stellantis confirmed its goal to mass-produce the Midnight aircraft as Archer’s exclusive contract manufacturer. This move boosted the California-headquartered company’s path to commercialisation. In fact, the first phase of Archer’s manufacturing plant in Georgia is on track and should be completed by the end of the year. Once live, the 350,000 sq. ft. facility on a 100-acre site will be capable of producing up to 650 aircraft in a year.

Horacio Pagani states Leonardo’s art as design inspiration for his cars at Shanghai Museum event

To perpetuate and promote the dialogue between East and West, art and science, and tradition and modernity, the Shanghai Museum hosted an exhibition titled “The Shape of Air: from Leonardo da Vinci to Pagani Utopia” on March 4, 2024. This event saw Horacio Pagani, the founder and chief designer of Pagani Automobili, reveal Leonardo’s Renaissance art was a major artistic inspiration in the birth of his creations whilst also unveiling a new work – a dragon inspired by the Song era (960-1279), painted on the visible carbon hood of Pagani Utopia, created by Yan Xiaojun, a young artist from the Department of Painting and Calligraphy of the Shanghai Museum. This marked the first time in over 70 years of the Museum’s history that an automobile was exhibited in its halls. The exhibition open to the public until April 14, 2024, offers visitors a chance to see the philosophical and design evolution of Pagani’s automotive design.

Popular IAE Jet Engine Clears Test Run On 100% SAF

The aviation industry has set 2050 as the target to achieve net zero CO2 emissions. A key enabler will be the extensive use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). A promising development in that regard has surfaced from IAE International Aero Engines AG (IAE), a consortium comprising Pratt & Whitney (an RTX company), Pratt & Whitney Aero Engines International GmbH, Japanese Aero Engines Corporation, and MTU Aero Engines AG.

IAE has successfully tested the V2500 engine on 100 per cent SAF. More specifically, the engine test was conducted on 100 per cent Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids Synthetic Paraffinic Kerosine (HEFA-SPK) fuel supplied by Neste. This fuel is produced by hydrotreating renewable raw materials, like waste oils or fats, into an aviation turbine fuel. It is a prominent sustainable alternative to conventional jet fuels. The test was carried out at MTU Maintenance Hannover, Germany.

The V2500, first introduced in the late 1980s, currently powers the Airbus A320ceo family jets and the Embraer C-390 Millenium aircraft. It’s a popular powerplant, with nearly 3,000 V2500-equipped jets in service today. It has already been approved to operate on a fuel blend comprising up to 50 per cent SAF.

Airbus CityAirbus eVTOL Prototype Makes Public Debut

For a while now, we’ve known that Airbus, like many other startups globally, is working on a couple of eVTOLs (electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing) aircraft. One of them, the CityAirbus, has made its first public debut. It is still in prototype form and is slated to take its maiden flight later this year.

The Airbus CityAirbus NextGen (curious name!) has been developed for various purposes in major cities worldwide. The eVTOL has a wing span of approximately 12 metres with a four-seat passenger compartment. Airbus aims for a range of 80km with a cruising speed target of 120kmph. Of course, the necessary infrastructure to support eVTOL operations in populous cities will play a crucial role.

Asics Launches Two New Metaspeed Running Shoes

Japanese sportswear brand Asics has introduced two new running shoes in its flagship Metaspeed Series. They are called Metaspeed Sky Paris and Metaspeed Edge Paris. Compared to the previous versions, the new ones are lighter by 22g. That comes courtesy of a new Motion Wrap Upper 2.0, which has also made the shoe nearly 8 per cent more breathable. Another new aspect is the addition of FF Turbo Plus midsole foam. As per the manufacturer, that helps in weight saving while providing a softer and bouncier experience.

Besides those improvements, Asics has also widened the full-length carbon plate in the forefoot section of the Metaspeed Sky Paris derivative. The brand claims this addition will boost ‘Stride’ runners, who spend large periods airborne and increase their speed by extending stride lengths. On the other hand, the Metaspeed Edge Paris has been updated with a better toe-off and a forefoot made using a new last. These improvements should help ‘Cadance’ runners, who have minimal up and down motions, and increase speed by extending strides and increasing the number of steps per minute.

Both shoes are available for men and women from the brand’s retail and online stores. They are priced at AED 1,050 / SAR 1,210 / KWD 87 / BHD 119.5 / OMR 116.5.

Up To 35 Icelandair Jets To Have Pratt & Whitney GTF Engines

Pratt & Whitney and Icelandair have been doing business with each other for over eight decades. Extending that relationship further is a new deal. The airline has chosen Pratt & Whitney’s GTF engines to power up to 35 new Airbus A320neo family aircraft. The count comprises a mix of leased and bought A321XLRs and A321LRs. Icelandair has also opted for an EngineWise agreement for the long-term maintenance, repair and overhaul of the new engines. With this deal, Iceland’s flag carrier becomes a new GTF customer for the RTX-owned company.

Icelandair selected the GTF engines because they will reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption by up to 30 per cent with the Airbus aircraft compared to the Boeing 757s they will replace. The first A321LRs should join the airline’s fleet next year, while the A32XLRs will start arriving in 2029. Icelandair currently operates DHC Dash 8 aircraft with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW100 and PW150 powerplants.

During the Singapore Airshow last month, Pratt & Whitney landed GTF engine deals with Cebu Pacific, JetSmart and Vietjet.

Dubai Police Strengthens Fleet With Volkswagen Amarok

The majority of law enforcement agencies globally boast a fleet of vehicles that are scary but nothing more. That’s not the case with the Dubai Police. It is renowned worldwide for packing some of the most exotic cars in its arsenal. For instance, it employed a McLaren Artura, a Lamborghini Urus Performante and an Audi RS E-Tron GT in 2023 alone.

All fancy and fast but, with the possible exception of the Lambo SUV to some extent, not ideal for utilitarian purposes. That’s where the latest addition comes in – the Volkswagen Amarok. Provided by Al Nabooda Automobiles, the official distributor of Volkswagen vehicles in Dubai and Northern Emirates, ropes in heaps of ruggedness, toughness and, of course, the goodness of all-wheel-drive. Specifics that will come in handy include the 1.19-tonne payload capacity and towing capability of up to 3,500kg. On the safety front, the Amarok comes packed with more than 25 assistance systems, such as a 360-degree monitor and road sign recognition system.

Besides this deal, Airbus signed contracts with Bristow, HealthNet Aeromedical Services, THC and DRF Luftrettung during the Heli-Expo 2024.

Heli-Expo 2024: Bristow To Buy Up To 15 Airbus H135s

At the Heli-Expo 2024, Airbus and Bristow Group signed a framework agreement for 15 H135 helicopters. The paperwork details that five of the total are part of the firm order, and the remaining ten are options. In October this year, the first chopper is expected to be delivered.

Bristow already has a fleet of 10 H135s and has operated the said type of chopper since 2006. The firm provides aviation services to various offshore energy companies and government entities. The company’s COO for Offshore Energy Services says:

The H135 has proven itself to be a very capable helicopter, both for missions offshore and overland.

Bristow recently inked a deal with Italian aviation firm Leonardo for up to 20 helicopters. On the other hand, Airbus has bagged contracts from THC, DRF Luftrettung and HealthNet Aeromedical Services at the Heli-Expo 2024.

Heli-Expo 2024: THC, Leonardo Make Huge Announcement

Besides bagging an order from Bristow Group, Leonardo has also struck multiple agreements with Saudi Arabia’s The Helicopter Company (THC). At the Heli-Expo 2024, THC signed a contract for 20 Leonardo AW139 helicopters. Also, the duo inked a multiyear framework agreement for more than 130 choppers of various types.

Here are the specifics. The 20 AW139s, to be delivered between 2025 and 2026, will help strengthen THC’s emergency medical services and search and rescue operations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). By the time the delivery is complete, KSA’s Public Investment Fund-backed THC will have almost 50 AW139s in its fleet.

The Framework Agreement, on the other hand, comprises units of Leonardo’s AW109s, AW169s and AW189s. All will be used for various services. Details about the first batch will be specified before H1 2024 ends. As for the deliveries, they should be completed anywhere between five to seven years. Besides inking these deals with Leonardo, THC signed an agreement with Airbus during the Heli-Expo 2024.

Leonardo Signs Deal With Bristow For Up To 20 Choppers

Italian firm Leonardo has inked a framework agreement with USA’s Bristow Group for up to 20 helicopters. The deal comprises a firm order for 10 AW189 choppers plus 10 options. This contract will support Bristow’s fleet expansion plan between 2025 and 2028. Bristow currently operates 21 AW189 helicopters worldwide, with another five due for delivery by the end of 2024.

Leonardo and Bristow have been doing business for over 28 years, with the latter purchasing various aircraft types, including the AW119 single engine, AW109 light twin, AW139 intermediate twin, and AW189 super medium. All put together, Bristow’s fleet of Leonardo choppers will shoot to nearly 110 units with the arrival of the additional 10 AW189s. In 2022, the duo entered a 10-year global service agreement for Bristow’s offshore fleet, covering the AW139 and AW189 units across the globe.

Heli-Expo 2024: HealthNet Aeromedical Orders Four H135s

Besides inking deals with THC and DRF Luftrettung at the Heli-Expo 2024, Airbus has also bagged an order from Charleston-headquartered HealthNet Aeromedical Services. It is for four H135 helicopters, which will join the West Virginia-based company’s fleet of eleven Airbus-only aircraft comprising H130, H135 and EC145 choppers.

The H135 serves the emergency medical services sector well. Besides boasting a spacious and unobstructed cabin, the chopper has good range, payload capacity, low sound levels, oversized sliding side doors and rear clamshell doors.

HealthNet Aeromedical Services has operated only Airbus aircraft ever since the company came into existence approximately four decades ago. The Airbus H135 is a market leader in its category, with more than 700 specimens being used worldwide for life-saving missions. To date, Airbus has delivered over 1,500 choppers from the H135 family.

It revolves around delivering up to 120 Airbus helicopters of various types over the next five to seven years. The paperwork also mentions a firm order for eight H125s and 10 H145s, with the latter part of the converted options from a previous deal. That bumps THC’s firm orderbook of Airbus choppers to 60, 25 of which are already in operation.

Where the H125s will bolster THC’s services in aerial work and tourism, the new fleet of H145s will strengthen the company’s Emergency Medical Services and corporate transport operations. In the Dakar Rally, both choppers mentioned above were deployed. THC began operations in 2019 and currently has 47 aircraft serving various sectors, with private charters on the list. Last year, the company also took delivery of its first ACH160 for Red Sea Global tourism services.

A New Skoda Announced For India

In the past couple of years, Skoda India has managed to turn its fortunes. The Czech brand that leads Volkswagen Group India’s game plan in the subcontinent has retailed over 100,000 vehicles in the last two years. In 2023, it grew by 18.5 per cent. And all that came courtesy of two heavily localised models – the Slavia and Kushaq – and the platform they share – the MQB-A0-IN.

In 2026, Skoda Aims to sell 100,000 vehicles in India. By 2030, the Volkswagen Group India wants to capture a 5 per cent market share. And to give a real push, a new model will join the lineup. Still nameless (to be confirmed by the end of the year), it will sit below the Kushaq in Skoda India’s product portfolio. The newcomer will compete in the hotly contested sub-4 metre SUV space.

Underpinned by a tweaked version of the same platform mentioned above, the production version of the Skoda SUV will launch in the first half of next year. In all likelihood, Skoda will utilise the 1.0-litre TSI motor for its new model. Besides India, the brand intends to sell the subcompact SUV in ASEAN and the Middle East markets.

Emirates Flights To Bogota Start This June

From June 3, 2024, Emirates will start serving its fourth South American destination. It’s Bogota, the capital of Colombia. Once flights to the Columbian capital commence, Emirates operations in the Americas will jump to 19 destinations across the USA, Mexico, Canada, Brazil, Argentina and, of course, Colombia.

Mr Rehman also summoned the duties of McLaren Abu Dhabi’s MSO – McLaren Special Operations. Besides opting for a bespoke exterior paintwork, he chose a lightweight track interior to keep the racy aura alive.

Oakley Launches Two New Sunglasses For Athletes

With the Summer Olympic Games fast approaching, California-headquartered Oakley has launched two new sunglasses specially designed for athletes – Sphaera and BiSphaera. The duo offer the “most extended field of view yet” per the brand. That is paramount because, in competitive activities, one wouldn’t want too many blind spots.

Both sunglasses feature a lightweight design, which comes in handy during outdoor competitions. Sphaera features Oakley’s Prizm Lens Technology, an O-Matter frame, a front vent for improved airflow, Unobtainium nose pads and moulded-in ear socks. Those features will help Team Oakley athletes across various segments, including Fred Kerley, Loana Lecomte, Mark Cavendish, Francisco Lindor, Dylan Fratelli, and others, to deliver when it matters most.

On the other hand, BiSphaera sums up as a versatile option to Oakley’s Flak 2.0 XL. The newcomer is a better bet when it comes to adaptability. Besides boasting a lightweight construction, BiSphaera can accommodate Oakley’s Authentic Prescription lens and those mentioned above. That means athletes can wear these on and off the playing field.

Both new eyewear are now available on Oakley’s official website and select Oakley stores. The brand’s partner dealers across the globe will also have them in stock.
