New Bentley Flying Spur Revealed: The Brand’s Most Powerful 4-door Yet
A super sedan with 3D quilted leather seats, hundred of customisation options and a 771 horsepower hybrid powertrain that gets it from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds
The newly refreshed Bentley Flying Spur has been revealed, continuing its legacy as a superlative luxury and performance sedan. The performance-focused Bentley Flying Spur Speed, which is now the luxury automaker’s most powerful four-door sedan till date, will be the first from the range to go on sale.
Exterior: Speed-specific bodywork, animated puddle lamps & 22″ wheels choices
The exterior design largely retains the familiar, muscular yet elegant design of the 3rd generation Flying Spur launched in 2019. A Speed-specific grille, front bumper and rear diffuser, along with brightware in dark tint give it a sporty distinction, while the body colour aero package can be had in carbon fibre as well. The new LED puddle lamps project a “light sculpture”, an animated Bentley Wings logo, onto the ground, first seen in the coachbuilt Batur coupe by Mulliner. The refreshed 4-door comes with 22-inch ten “Swept” spoke wheels or two other 22-inch designs in a variety of finishes like painted, machined and satin.
Interior: 3D diamond quilted seats with zoned heating/cooling and massage function
Inside the spacious cabin, is an all-new seat design which features 3D diamond quilting, revised perforation pattern and tactile 3D diamond hide on doors and B Pillars. Like the exterior, the new Dark Chrome effect can be specified to door handles, switches, speaker grilles etc. and new instrumentation graphics completes the package. The central dash piece can either be optioned with a rotating 12.3-inch display, 3 analogue dials, or an unbroken side of handcrafted veneer. For the first time the optional Wellness Seating Specification is available on all four seats which includes Seat Auto Climate and Postural Adjust, which maintains the perfect body temperature via zoned heating and ventilation and varies the pressure on the occupants’ muscles for minimum fatigue.
Customisation: 101-plus exterior paints & 700-plus leather combinations
Bentley says customers can choose from billions of configurations even before requesting the services of its bespoke and coachbuilding division, Mulliner. A paint range of 101 colours can be expanded to any colour from Bentley’s past, and paint-matching is also available. For the interior, 22 primary hide colours, 11 secondary shades and 4 four colour splits are available. This means that in the leather alone there are 700-plus combos before adding contrast stitching, piping or bespoke features. The leathers are joined by eight wood veneer options and a further three technical finishes.
Powertrain: 1,000 Nm & 771 horse twin-turbo V8 hybrid; 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 secs
The Flying Spur Speed’s hybrid all-wheel drive powertrain combines a 592 hp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 and 187 PS electric motor with an 8-speed dual clutch transmission. Max torque is up from 900 Nm to 1000 Nm and total system power has been bumped up from 650 hp to 771 hp. This makes it the most powerful Bentley sedan ever, allowing it to complete the 0-100 km/h dash in an incredible 3.5 secs – half a second faster. In pure EV mode the 25.9 kWh battery allows up to 76 km of silent travel deployable up to 140 km/h, with up to 75 per cent throttle application. Also, it takes as little as 2 hr 45 mins using a 11 kW connection thanks to related improvements. Also new is a charge mode, where the engine drives the wheels and charges the battery simultaneously. Total range is now 829 km.
The Bentley Performance Active Chassis comes as standard includes Bentley Dynamic Ride and All-Wheel Steering, along with an e-LSD, and a new ESC software permits a range of driving styles. Other highlights include active torque vectoring and new twin-valve dampers that can control rebound and compression damping separately thereby improving ride comfort.
Technology: Phone integration updates, app w/ Remote Parking Assist & 3 sound systems choices
The wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto and over-the-air map updates have been improved. And via the new My Bentley App Studio, customers can download (without a smartphone) and use to vehicle and third-party applications for music, video, gaming, navigation, Remote Park Assist and charging.
A choice of 3 audio systems includes the standard 650W 10-speaker unit, a Bang & Olufsen 1,500 W, 16-speaker system with illuminated speaker grilles and a Naim 2,200W, 19-speaker system with Active Bass Transducers built into the front seats.
