The relationship between Aston Martin and the famous secret agent James Bond is deep-rooted in history. But it is not only an old relationship between two brands based on just a marketing value for the British manufacturer verses a financial benefit for the movie’s producers. What links Aston Martin cars with the famous British hero can go as deep as having the same characteristics, including elegance, boldness, strength, and extraordinary charisma.
Today, on the occasion of Goldfinger’s 60th anniversary, Aston Martin is celebrating by unveiling a special edition of DB12 called DB12 Goldfinger.
DB12 Goldfinger Edition is a Q by Aston Martin creation. It will be available exclusively to the top Aston Martin collectors. Only 60 units will be produced to celebrate the distinguished partnership that has lasted for more than half the brand’s life span of about 111 years.
In contrast to the features available in the DB5 that appeared in the movie, which help Mr Bond fight the villains, the DB12 Goldfinger edition comes loaded with luxury and comfortable equipment. In addition to some unique touches related to the movie, as the new car features the famous silver colour, to match the colour of the DB5 in the Goldfinger movie, it is also available with 21-inch silver multi-spoke wheels with distinctive glossy touches, black brake callipers, and the famous gold side stripes with the silver Aston Martin logo on a black background.
The side panels are also decorated with a shiny chrome “Q” logo, highlighting the distinctive touches added to the car by the Q by Aston Martin personalization department.
The interior includes Sports Plus leather seats upholstered in a similar way to the DB5 seats and perforated in a pattern that mimics the Prince of Wales pattern, giving a touch similar to the classic James Bond outfit. The unique design extends to the roof, with the Goldfinger 60th Anniversary logo featured on the bright treadplate.
The interior is further enhanced by 18-carat gold trim, which features on the rotary mode selector and control switches, as well as a knurled gearshift paddle, inspired by the golden tracker used by Bond in the film. The design also extends to the veneer linings, where the embroidered gold thread is interwoven with glossy carbon fibre in a 2×2 twill design.
The’ eight of hearts’ embroidered onto the driver’s sun visor is a subtle nod to Bond aficionados. This references the playing card seen in the last draw during the famous Miami pool scene in Goldfinger.
