Kia Launches EV9 And New Carnival In India
Both MPVs take the CBU route and land with one variant each.
What a way to kickstart the last quarter of 2024! Kia India has launched two MPVs in one day. One is its flagship all-electric offering, the EV9, and the other is the all-new Carnival. Both people movers take the CBU route (direct import) and land in India with one variant each. Pricing? The Carnival Limousine Plus (Seven-Seater) costs INR 63.9 lakh, whereas the EV9 GT-Line AWD (Six-Seater) has a sticker price of INR 1.3 crore.
Kia Carnival
Measuring over 5.1 metres in length and riding on 18-inch alloy wheels, the Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 190hp/441Nm. The oomph goes to two wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. As mentioned above, it has space for seven passengers in a 2+2+3 layout. Kia has kept the choice of colours to two—Black and White. Both come coupled with an interior sporting a dual-tone theme—Tuscan and Umber.
The features list is quite extensive. It includes powered front seats with memory, ventilation and heating functions, electrically sliding rear doors, a Smart Key with push-button start, powered and ventilated second-row seats and 64-colour ambient lighting. Features such as an 11-inch head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system and support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also included.
The all-new Carnival has many safety and assistance systems, including eight airbags and ADAS Level 2 with 23 autonomous features. The latter comprises systems such as a Front Collision Warning, a 360-degree camera, a Blind View Monitor, a Lane Departure Warning and Smart Cruise Control with Stop/Go.
Kia EV9
The EV9 measures over 5 metres long, with a wheelbase stretching 3.1 metres. Propulsion comes courtesy of two electric motors, jointly outputting 379hp/700Nm. The motors get their juice from a 99.8kWh battery. When driven carefully, the Kia EV9 can deliver a range of up to 561km. At the same time, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in as little as 24 minutes. The 2+2+2 seating configuration can be mated with an interior in White & Black or Brown & Black. For the exterior, there are five colour options.
The Kia EV9’s features list is impressive. It includes a dual sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, powered seats with memory function, remote folding second and third rows of seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 20-inch alloy wheels, a wireless mobile charger, and a head-up display. Three-zone automatic climate control, six USB Type-C ports, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Vehicle-to-load power supply and a 14-speaker Meridian sound system are also part of the package.
The safety aspect is also top-notch, with ten airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, front, side, and rear parking sensors, and Downhill Brake Control included. The Kia EV9 also has ADAS Level 2 with 27 features. The list consists of Forward Collison Avoidance Assist, Safe Exit Assist, Driver Attention Warning, a Blind View Monitor, Lane Following Assist, Smart Cruise Control and a 360-degree camera.
