Refreshed 2025 Volvo XC90 SUV Revealed
Highlights include a revised front end, redesigned dashboard with a larger infotainment screen, and improved ride quality
The Swedish automaker, Volvo has revealed its newly revamped flagship SUV, the Volvo XC90. For the 2025YM, the premium 7-seater has received a broad suite of technology and design updates inside and out, including a revised front outlook, a larger infotainment screen and improved suspension bits.
Exterior & interior: Revised outlook and dashboard; larger 11.2″ screen
The new XC90’s more contemporary exterior design reflects Volvo’s full electrification plans and elements from its current EV range. The headlamps have been restyled. The vertical ribs seen on the grille have been replaced by criss-cross lines, and the front bumper has gained wider central inlet, flanked by 2 new vertical grilles. The redesigned dashboard has a more horizontal shape and it incorporates decorative panels made from premium recycled materials with a more textured finish, and is split by new vertical air vents. It also gains enhanced illumination and additional storage space in the centre console, including an additional cupholder, and a wireless phone charger behind the central tunnel. The revisions also brings the latest user experience, seen in the new EX90 and EX30 EVs. It now comes with a larger, 11.2-inch, free-standing central touchscreen with an improved pixel density of 21 per cent. We expect the same range of audio systems to carry over, starting with the standard 220W 6-speaker unit, followed by a 600W 14-speaker Harman Kardan unit and finally, a 1,410W 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins system which has concert hall and jazz club modes.
Powertrain: 2 mild hybrids and a range topping PHEV options; improved ride comfort
Three variants from the previous year is said to carry over. The range starts with the B5 and B6 mild-hybrid petrol variants which are assisted by a 48V lithium-ion battery and an integrated starter/generator which can help reduce emissions and fuel consumption by up to 15 per cent. As per the 2024YM, the B5, which is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline 4-cylinder puts out 249 hp and 350 Nm of max. torque, which allows it to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.7 seconds. The B6 uses the same configuration but is tuned for more performance. It makes up to 300 hp and a max. torque of 420 Nm, allowing it to get to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. The rated fuel economies are 8.1 and 8.2 L/100km, respectively. The range topping T8 Plug-in Hybrid makes 462 hp and 709 Nm of peak outputs, which allows to get from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The T8 is rated for a combined fuel economy of1.8L/100km, an 77 km all-electric range and a total range of 800 km. All models comes with AWD systems. The standard suspension has also been improved. Each individual damper is now able to adapt mechanically to current road conditions to optimise both comfort and stability. Also available is the optional air suspension which works together with an active chassis that monitors the car, road and driver 500 times per second providing the most comfortable ride possible. To improve egress/ingress, high-speed aerodynamics and additional ride height for rough terrain, the air suspension can lower itself by 20mm or raise itself by 40mm. Furthermore, on top extra insulation to certain parts for less wind and road noise.Â
Safety: Advanced safety cage and active features
The XC90 is equipped with an advanced safety cage, as well as a suite of active safety features. Using the radar and front camera, it can detect if you’ve drifted into the oncoming lane and steer you safely back. It will also use braking and steering to help avoid collisions with other vehicles, objects or animals.
Globally, the new Volvo XC90 is now available to order, with production is scheduled to begin in late 2024 and the first customer deliveries set to start around the end of the year. The pricing and warranty details have yet to be announced for the UAE and the Middle East region yet. Stay tuned for more information!
