Qatar Tourism launches holiday campaign featuring David Beckham

The footballer discovers the best of Qatar within 48 hours

In a bid to promote Qatar as a tourist hotspot and attract upwards of six million tourists a year by 2030, the country’s tourism division has roped in football megastar David Beckham. The footballer headlines a new holiday campaign for Qatar Tourism which sees him embark on an action-packed adventure around the country over 48 hours.

Commenting on the launch of the campaign, Chairman of Qatar Tourism and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said: “It has been a pleasure to welcome David to Qatar, where he has immersed himself in the culture and experienced first- hand the warm hospitality of our people. I encourage the millions who transit through Qatar every year to follow in David’s footsteps and create their own exciting adventure and memories. We have something for everyone at incredible value, whether it’s sun, sea and sand, rich heritage and culture, surprising nature, or a modern and fun city break.”

The campaign showcases Beckham discovering everything Qatar has to offer to its visitors. From exploring the spice market in Souq Waqif, soaking up local street art, cooking tacos with Qatari-infused flavours, camping in the desert to sightseeing around Doha in a motorbike, Beckham’s adventures present the Middle Eastern country as a perfect stopover destination.

Speaking on his 48-hour stopover, David Beckham said: “Qatar has surprised me with a wide range of great experiences you can have in just 48 hours. The people are warm and welcoming, and it is a great place to spend a few days.”

With the upcoming list of national holidays and long weekends, this campaign is aimed to inspire GCC residents to earmark Qatar as their next destination for a weekend getaway. It will even aid in promoting awareness of value stopover packages on offer from Qatar Airways. Additionally, this appointment of Beckham to promote tourism should work wonders for Qatar Tourism as it aligns perfectly with the impending FIFA 2022 World Cup scheduled for November.

To further boost the awareness of Qatar Tourism in the subcontinent, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has been reportedly chosen as the sports ambassador. His massive fan following is expected to help Qatar pull more tourists from Asian countries and beyond.
