Ford pays homage to Mustang’s 60-year legacy with a 60th Anniversary Package

It features design elements reminiscent of the original car

Year? 1964. Venue? New York World’s Fair. Highlight? Ford introduced its first-ever Muscle car to the world. It’s been 60 years and seven generations since and to date, the Ford Mustang remains one of the most iconic vehicles in automotive history. To commemorate this milestone, Ford has launched a limited-edition 60th Anniversary package for the iconic Mustang.

Limited to 1965 units globally as a nod to the Mustang’s official first model year, Ford will offer the 60th Anniversary Package only with the GT Premium trim. While this restricts the engine choice to the iconic 5.0-litre V8, customers can still choose between coupe and convertible models with either manual or automatic transmissions.

To hark back to the original Mustang, Ford equips its latest seventh-generation muscle car with some yesteryear touches in the 60th Anniversary Package. The fenders and trunk lid receive a modernised iteration of the classic 5.0-litre badge from the original while the 20-inch wheels finished in Dark Gravity Gray feature a Vermillion Red, retro-themed stamped aluminium center cap inspired by the 1965 Mustang center caps. It also gets side stripes and a new mesh grille design, reminiscent of the original Mustang’s rocker panels and front grille respectively.

The Mustang 60th Anniversary Edition can be had in classic Wimbledon White, modern Race Red and Vapor Blue colours and opting for the latter two also receive silver mirror caps as a callback to the chrome mirrors of the older car. The interior upholstery can be decided between Space Gray, Carmine Red or Black Onyx colours while all 60th anniversary package units feature a special serialized 60th Anniversary instrument panel badge.

The Ford Mustang 60th Anniversary Package will be available to order this summer and is set to hit dealerships across America in the fourth quarter of this year. Prices will be announced closer to the on-sale date.
