Singapore Airshow 2024: Royal Brunei Orders Four Boeing Jets

Royal Brunei Airlines has announced an order for four Boeing 787 Dreamliners at the ongoing Singapore Airshow 2024. The twin-engined 787-9 widebody jet accounts for the entire purchase agreement.

The new aircraft will help Brunei’s national carrier modernise its fleet, which includes five 787-8s serving various destinations across Australia, the Middle East, the UK, and Asia. In fact, Royal Brunei Airlines was the first carrier in Southeast Asia to operate the Boeing 787-8 more than 10 years ago. Compared to the 787-8, the 787-9 can carry nearly 20 per cent more passengers and cover routes of up to 14,010km (7,565 nautical miles) nonstop. In addition, the 787-9 delivers up to 25 per cent reduction in emissions and fuel consumption.

Singapore Airshow 2024: Thai Airways Orders 45 Boeing 787s

At the ongoing Singapore Airshow 2024, Thai Airways has placed an order for 45 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. More specifically, it’s for the 787-9 twin-engined widebody aircraft. Those will help the carrier modernise and bolster its fleet of long-range aircraft. As a result, the airline will add more routes to its international network.

Presently, Thai Airways operates various widebody jets to almost 60 domestic and international destinations. The fleet, which includes Boeing’s 777s and 787s, helps Thailand’s flagship carrier connect to the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Compared to the 787-8, the 787-9 is 20 feet (6 metres) longer. That opens space for nearly 20 per cent more passengers. At the same time, the newer aircraft will help save up to 25 per cent on fuel and emissions.

Pratt & Whitney To Power 15 More Cebu Pacific Jets

The 2024 Singapore Airshow went live today. One of the early developments from the event was a deal between Pratt & Whitney and Cebu Pacific Air. According to the agreement, the former will supply GTF engines to the latter for an additional 15 Airbus aircraft – 10 A321neo and 5 A320neo. Also, the RTX-owned brand will provide engine maintenance per its EngineWise Comprehensive service contract.

There are presently 33 GTF-powered A320neo family Cebu Pacific jets in service. Before the modern-day aeroplanes came into the equation, Pratt & Whitney’s JT8D engines served the carrier’s DC-9 aircraft. In fact, the duo have been conducting business with each other since the 1990s.

MG Cyberster Tours The UAE

In September last year, the MG Cyberster embarked on an international journey from London. With its final destination set as Shanghai, China, the two-door EV will visit various potential markets on the way. The SAIC-backed brand also announced that the car would be in the Middle East between January 14 and February 19, 2024.

The MG Cyberster made its first public appearance in the UAE earlier this month. For six days, it was driven across the country. At the hands of the Turner twins, Ross and Hugo, the sports car explored Dubai’s landmarks, the cityscape, and Ras Al Khaimah. The MG Cyberster also visited the country’s capital – Abu Dhabi. The drivers got to check out the MG Cyberster display at Al Qana. Also, they went to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and explored the city’s bustling streets.

MG has devised two versions of the Cyberster – single motor with 64kWh battery and dual motor with 77kWh battery. The most potent derivative can hit 100kmph from nothing in 3.2 seconds.

Oakley Launches Two New Sunglasses For Athletes

With the Summer Olympic Games fast approaching, California-headquartered Oakley has launched two new sunglasses specially designed for athletes – Sphaera and BiSphaera. The duo offer the “most extended field of view yet” per the brand. That is paramount because, in competitive activities, one wouldn’t want too many blind spots.

Both sunglasses feature a lightweight design, which comes in handy during outdoor competitions. Sphaera features Oakley’s Prizm Lens Technology, an O-Matter frame, a front vent for improved airflow, Unobtainium nose pads and moulded-in ear socks. Those features will help Team Oakley athletes across various segments, including Fred Kerley, Loana Lecomte, Mark Cavendish, Francisco Lindor, Dylan Fratelli, and others, to deliver when it matters most.

On the other hand, BiSphaera sums up as a versatile option to Oakley’s Flak 2.0 XL. The newcomer is a better bet when it comes to adaptability. Besides boasting a lightweight construction, BiSphaera can accommodate Oakley’s Authentic Prescription lens and those mentioned above. That means athletes can wear these on and off the playing field.

Both new eyewear are now available on Oakley’s official website and select Oakley stores. The brand’s partner dealers across the globe will also have them in stock.
