Volkswagen Unveils The ID.7 Tourer EV

It’s an estate that can travel up to 685km before the battery runs out of juice.

Complementing the ID.7 fastback saloon from last year is what you see here – the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer. Per the brand, it’s an estate that “is a fusion of a classic estate in the format of the Passat and a dynamic shooting brake such as the Arteon”. In truth, the ID.7 is more of an extension to the Passat family. It fills the void in the range, which already had petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid options.

The specimen of the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer you see here is a “near-production” form. That means before it goes on sale, a few tweaks here and there might come in – evident or not. However, a few highlights have already been confirmed. For instance, with the rear seats in “cargo position”, there’s space for up to 605 litres in the luggage compartment. Fold away those seats completely, and the volume increases to 1,714 litres.

There are more numbers to fathom. The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will be available with two battery sizes. Depending on the variant chosen, the expected WLTP-certified range is up to 685km. Moreover, the larger battery pack will support DC fast charging up to 200kW. Under ideal conditions, the battery can be replenished from 10 to 80 per cent in well under 30 minutes.

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will also come equipped with various creature comforts. Among the standard fit features will be an augmented reality (AR) head-up display. Besides aiding the driver with vital information in the field of view, this feature allows Volkswagen to fit compact conventional instruments. The list of optional extras includes an electrochromic panoramic sunroof and a Wellness In-Car application. Packed with predefined programmes – Fresh Up, Calm Down and Power Break – it controls various features of the car, like the ergoActive seats, automatic air conditioning and pressure-point massage function, to deliver on the chosen mode.

Europe-wide presales of the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer will start in the first quarter of 2024. And those who want to know a bit more about the powertrain, can take a strong hint from the ID.7 saloon’s brochure.
