What you see here is what BMW India calls the X4 50 Jahre M Edition. The SUV-coupe becomes the sixth model to receive the unique treatment commemorating 50 years of BMW M. The best part is that the X4 50 Jahre M Edition is available in both petrol and diesel versions. Get it in xDrive30i M Sport spec, and the sticker price will read INR 72.90 lakh. The other option is the xDrive30d M Sport, which costs INR 74.90 lakh. Simple math reveals that both those derivatives demand a premium of INR 1 lakh over the ones they are based on.
Let’s look at where the extra amount goes. First, the 50 Jahre M Edition gets a high-gloss black grille, including slats, tailpipe finishers in black and M headlights in Shadowline black. Also, the new version features a BMW 50 M Jahre Edition emblem on the exterior, door projectors with the same branding and 20-inch jet black alloy wheels. Indoors, the all-black upholstery is teamed with contrasting red stitching. And lastly, there are two exclusive colour options – Black Sapphire and M Brooklyn Grey.
The rest of the package remains unaltered. That means the features list includes a 16-speaker Harman Kardon Sound System, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, three-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof and adaptive LED headlamps.
Under the bonnet, you can have either a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 248bhp/350Nm or a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder diesel with 261bhp/620Nm on tap. Both powerplants come coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission, which routes the oomph to all four wheels. Also in the mix is an adaptive suspension, which changes its behaviour based on the drive mode selected, and performance control, which splits torque at the rear wheels with automatic differential locks. And in case you’re wondering, the diesel X4 can hit 100kmph from nothing in 5.8 seconds. On the other hand, the petrol-powered variant takes 0.8 seconds longer for the same sprint.
So, there you have it. After the X4, four more 50 Jahre M Edition versions are planned for India. The 3 Series, 5 Series, 6 Series, M4 and the X7 have already received the celebratory treatment.
