India, The First BMW ‘50 Jahre M Edition’ Has Arrived

A total of 10 such celebratory versions will be launched.

It’s the 50th anniversary of BMW Motorsport GmbH. But, of course, we also know that entity as the BMW M. And to celebrate the occasion, the carmaker has decided to introduce unique limited-run models worldwide. India, too, is on the list, and it will get 10 such celebratory versions. The first one has arrived – the BMW M340i xDrive ‘50 Jahre M Edition’. It costs INR 68.90 lakh or INR 3 lakh more than the April 2022 price of the standard M340i xDrive. Like the latter, the former is assembled at BMW India’s Chennai facility and can be exclusively bought via the company’s online shop.

Under the bonnet is the same 3.0-litre turbocharged 6-cylinder petrol engine that produces 382bhp/500Nm. That oomph is routed to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. According to BMW, the M340i xDrive can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.4 seconds and reach an electronically-limited top speed of 250kmph.

The 50 Jahre M Edition ropes in bespoke styling elements, such as front grille, ORVM caps and front air intakes in high gloss black, 19-inch Jet Black wheels and BMW 50 Years emblems. Indoors, there’s the Individual trim finisher in Piano Black. If all that doesn’t float your boat, you can opt for either of the optional M packages – Motorsport pack and Carbon pack. The former dials in an M Performance steering wheel, Alcantara-draped gear knob and a matt black rear spoiler. On the other hand, the latter uses carbon fibre elements on the gear knob and rear spoiler and brings in the same M Performance steering wheel.

The rest of the package remains identical, with the features list including three-zone automatic climate control, BMW Laserlight, M Sport brakes and an electric sunroof. But, of course, there’s more. Stuff like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and rain-sensing wipers, are also available.

So, there you have it. The BMW M340i 50 Jahre M Edition could fit the bill if you want something super exclusive. In the coming months, the German brand will also introduce such iterations of the M4 and the M5. Also, the SUV range will get celebratory treatment.
