Urban Cruiser Hyryder Doesn’t Start At INR 15.11 Lakh

Toyota’s first compact SUV is up for grabs in eleven variants.

For model launches, brands these days try all the tricks in the book to keep the excitement levels up. And the latest to practice one such stint is Toyota. Suddenly, it today announced prices for some of the variants of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. However, before we get to them, let me clarify that there are eleven variants for customers to choose from, and only four have gained their prices for now. And here they are:

Bookings for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder opened back in July 2022. And it has been creating a lot of hype since it first broke cover. Not only is it Toyota’s first compact SUV, but also the first to boast a strong-hybrid powertrain. That comprises a 1.5-litre petrol engine, an electric motor and an eCVT. All on its own, the internal combustion engine produces 91bhp/122Nm, whereas the electric motor has 79bhp/141Nm to offer. What about the total system output? That’s 114bhp. If that doesn’t float your boat, the claimed mileage of 27.97kmpl will!

If variants packing the strong-hybrid powertrain are out of reach, you can settle for the second option. That is a Suzuki-sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a mild-hybrid system. It produces 102bhp/137Nm and is available with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Also, this is the only engine you can have if you need the four-wheel-drive option. Mileage? Depending on the engine, transmission and drive combination, it ranges from 19.39kmpl to 21.12kmpl.

On the features front, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has stuff like a head-up display, automatic climate control, ventilated front seats, a wireless mobile charger, panoramic sunroof, a PM2.5 filter, a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and connected-car technology.

In India, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder competes with the Skoda Karoq, Volkswagen Taigun, Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos. Soon, its step-sibling – the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara – will join the game.
