Laurent Ferrier has introduced the new Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue to mark its 15th anniversary. Its dial is a reimagined version of the brand’s 2016 Galet Traveller Globe Night Blue; a watch whose dial also depicted the Earth at night. The new Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue features a brand new blue champlevé enamel dial.
“The 2016 edition was distinguished by an engraved white gold dial, where the oceans were adorned with translucent blue enamel, and the continents subtly enhanced with gold glitter. In 2025, engraving gives way to the art of miniature painting, with the continents cloaked in opaque blue enamel, elevated by more intense specks of enamelled gold, lending the whole piece a more refined and minimalist aesthetic.”
Key Features
Functions and Operation
Image: An elegant and easy-to-use dual time watch.
Central hours and minutes of local time.
Date aperture at 3 o’clock.
Home or reference time aperture at 9 o’clock. 24 hours display.
Crown at 3 o’clock for winding and time setting.
Two pushers at 8 o’clock (-) and 10 o’clock (+) to advance the central hour hand (local time) backwards and forwards in 1-hour increments “with automatic date correction.”
The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is a dual time watch. Let’s say I live in Dubai, and it is 10 AM. The home or reference time aperture would be set to 10. I need to set local time to Singapore, which is 4 hours ahead. I would use the 10 o’clock pusher to advance the central hour hand forward to 2 PM, the current time in Singapore. The date would be adjusted automatically, so it changes at midnight Singapore time. Same principle applies if I need to set local time to Paris, when it is 10 AM in Dubai. Paris is 3 hours behind, so I would use the 8 o’clock pusher to advance the central hour hand backwards to 7 AM, the current time in Paris. The date would be adjusted automatically, so it changes at midnight Paris time.
Quarter (Nepal) and half (Adelaide, India) time zones are not accounted for in the dual time functionality.
Dial
Image: Five continents and oceans depicted using white gold and blue champlevé enamel.
Dial’s spherical centre is made from 18K 210 Pd white gold. It features blue champlevé enamel. Surrounding this is a circular hour ring, grey colour and satin brushed.
11 drop-shaped hour-markers (2 for 12 o’clock) are made from 18K 210 Pd white gold.
2 stud-shaped hour-markers at 3 and 9 o’clock are made from cabochon cut 18K 210 Pd white gold.
Bevelled date aperture at 3 o’clock and bevelled home or reference time aperture at 9 o’clock.
Assegai-shaped hour and minute hands are made from 18K 210 Pd white gold, polished and curved.
“The centre of the dial is adorned with a convex planisphere depicting the five continents in white gold, covered with blue enamel, and surrounded by a sea rendered in deep blue enamel. Crafted using the age-old champlevé technique, the main challenge lies in executing this enamelling on a three-dimensional surface. The centre of the dial, made out of gold, is convex in shape, allowing for the reproduction of the Earth’s globe and enhancing the central motif – the five continents. The world’s city lights as seen from space at night are hand-painted with touches of enamelled gold, enhancing the contrast with the darker oceans. In addition to exceptional craftsmanship, more than five different firing stages are required to complete this central part of the dial.
Hand-finished with a circular satin-brushed surface, the outer ring or hour circle in slate grey creates the impression of plunging towards the central sphere, accentuating the illusion of a raised globe, seemingly hovering above the dial. The three-dimensional aspect of the dial is further enhanced by the drop-shaped indices, whose tips extend beyond the circle, appearing to be suspended above the globe.”
Movement
Image: A truly amazing automatic movement.
Powered by calibre LF230.02, an automatic movement that drives the hours and minutes of local time, date, and home or reference time.
“Self-winding calibre LF230.02 incorporating the dual-time adjustment mechanism as well as the date. It features a system of unidirectional automatic winding via a pawl-fitted micro-rotor, backed by a double direct-impulse natural escapement. This escapement is distinguished by the fact that the balance receives two direct impulses for each oscillation, thereby guaranteeing excellent efficiency matched by an 72-hour power reserve.”
Diameter: 31.60 mm or 14’’’ lignes. Thickness: 5.80 mm.
Parts: 288. Jewels: 44.
Frequency: 21,600 vph or 3 Hz. Power reserve: 72 hours.
Key movement features and finishings include:
- “Off-centred micro-rotor in 18k solid gold with pawl-fitted unidirectional winding, fixed between the mainplate and the bridge of the micro-rotor and equipped with a “silent block” shock-absorbing system.”
- “Natural escapement with double direct-impulse directly on the balance.”
- “Silicon pallet-lever with self-lubricating properties, escape-wheels in a phosphorous nickel alloy, produced according to LIGA technology.”
- “The decoration and finishing of the movement are executed in the spirit of traditional haute horlogerie, combining finesse and artisanal expertise. The sapphire case-back of the Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue offers a view of this exceptional craftsmanship. In addition to rhodium-plated Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges and circular graining on the main plate, the movement features hand-bevelled edges and hand-polished screw heads. Similarly, the intricate hand-bevelled edges, particularly in the interior angles, exemplify the values of traditional watchmaking cherished by LAURENT FERRIER.”

Our Thoughts
The Classic Traveller Globe Night Blue is a beautiful interpretation of Genevan haute horology. It is no surprise that Laurent Ferrier spent about 30 years in Patek Philippe in key technical roles, before leaving to establish his namesake brand in 2010.
Image: I could look at this view all day.
Its combination of a gorgeous blue champlevé enamel dial (and other dial details), an easy-to-use dual time function, a movement with the brand’s renown double direct-impulse natural escapement, use of silicon, and exquisite movement finishing, and case details is simply irresistible. This is horology for horology’s sake. It is a fitting way to celebrate the 15th anniversary of this remarkable watch brand.
