What is the new IWC Schaffhausen Big Pilot’s Watch Perpetual Calendar ProSet 140 years Mercedes-Benz?

It celebrates “140 Years of Innovation” with Mercedes-Benz. It also honours the 140th anniversary of the automobile and the union of two companies that became Mercedes-Benz. In 1886 (140 years ago), “Carl Benz filed the patent for the first automobile” and “Gottlieb Daimler built his motorised carriage.” Their respective companies Daimler Motoren-Gesellschaft and Benz & Cie. merged in 1926 to form Mercedes-Benz.

It is based on IWC Schaffhausen’s (IWC) Big Pilot’s Watch powered by their “newly engineered and highly innovative” Perpetual Calendar IWC-ProSet technology unveiled during Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026. It allows the intuitive and seamless forward and backward adjustability of all calendar functions via the crown without the need for additional pushers.

What are its dial features?

Image: The perpetual calendar functions are easy and straightforward to read at a glance, just how it should be on a pilot’s watch. The triangle with two dots at 12 o’clock is a historical pilot’s watch feature. The hands are gold-plated whereas the applied hour-markers are made from solid gold.  Notice the snailed finish on the outer subdials. The Double Moon® is a signature design feature of IWC. It displays the moon accurately in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. “Thanks to a newly calculated reduction gear, the display will deviate by only one day after 1,040 years.” The four-digit year is another signature design feature of the brand.

Black dial.  The perpetual calendar functions include subdials for the date at 3 o’clock, day of the week at 9 o’clock, month at 6 o’clock and the four-digit year between 7 and 8 o’clock. The central hour and minute hands, subdial hands and applied hour-markers are coated with Super-LumiNova.

What are its movement features?

Image: “IWC’s journey into mechanical calendars began in 1985, when the company presented the perpetual calendar developed by legendary watchmaker Kurt Klaus. With the new Perpetual Calendar ProSet, the brand has now completely reimagined this complication, which remains one of the greatest challenges in watchmaking to this day. The new module is based entirely on gears and protected by four patents. As a result, the calendar can now be adjusted forward and – for the first time – also backward using a single position of the crown. This new approach makes the calendar adjustments in both directions as easy and intuitive as setting the time itself. Unlike most traditional perpetual calendars, the ProSet requires no additional pushers, no changes in crown position, and no complicated setting menus. Behind this apparent simplicity lies a true engineering feat, which requires components with intricate and highly complex geometries. It is powered by IWC-Manufactured calibre 82665, an automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, central hacking seconds, perpetual calendar functions of date, day of the week, month, four-digit year and the perpetual moon phase for both the northern and southern hemispheres. It comprises 280 parts and 34 jewels, beats at a modern frequency of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and delivers a power reserve of 60 hours.

Calibre 82665 features the brand’s bidirectional Pellaton automatic winding system strengthened with ceramic components, a nickel-phosphorous escapement and a silicon hairspring.

What are its case and strap features?

The logo honours the 140th anniversary of the automobile and the merger of the two companies that became Mercedes-Benz. Notice the big crown at 3 o’clock and the brushed and polished finish of the stainless steel case. A perpetual calendar which requires only the crown for adjustments.

The case is made from stainless steel, measuring 42 mm (diameter) * 14 mm (thickness). Dial side features a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides and caseback features a sapphire crystal. It is water resistant to 10 bar or approximately 100 metres. It comes with a black rubber strap with the brand’s EasX-CHANGE® system.
