Geely Auto and AGMC debut a new flagship facility in Dubai
Both brands hosted a round table conference with the media to present future plans for the brand in the UAE
The global auto industry is witnessing a widespread emergence of Chinese cars, and the Middle Eastern market appears to be the latest in line confronting the Chinese automaker penetration. A few months ago, the Al-Futtaim group announced a partnership with BYD to sell the latter’s cars in the UAE. And now, AGMC, another leading UAE dealership, has acquired exclusive rights to sell cars in the UAE from Chinese auto conglomerate Geely.
AGMC aims to make a strong case for ‘affordable EVs’ using the Geely alliance. It recently opened the doors of its new state-of-the-art two-storied flagship showroom on Al Ittihad Road, Deira. To discuss Geely Auto’s future operations in the UAE and exhibit the new showroom, the head honchos of the Geely brand and the AGMC dealership hosted a round table conference with leading media houses of the UAE. The discussions were led by Andreas Schaaf, Divisional CEO – New Ventures at AGMC and The Cornea Impression was invited to the same.
The discussion revolved around the attributes and achievements accumulated by Geely on a global scale that incited the AGMC dealership to take up exclusive rights of the former. Jan Felton, Managing Director of AGMC’s parent firm – Albatha Holding, further emphasised the need for a premium showroom that resonates with the products of the Geely brand and how their experience from hosting luxury banners such as BMW and Rolls Royce in the UAE has helped them bring an added sense of luxury in the car buying experience of a premium brand such as Geely.
When asked about the categorisation of Geely Auto’s product portfolio for the UAE with respect to powertrains, the Geely Auto executives boasted about the brand’s vast range of diversity in powertrains housing traditional ICE engines, the hybrid powertrains and new-age all-electric motors as well. The brand is still assessing the UAE market, and all forms of powertrain variety can be expected to get offered to cater to different segments of buyers in the UAE. The executives further reiterated the possibility of Geely cars being seen amongst fleet operators in this region.
With the acquisition of Geely’s rights in the UAE, the AGMC dealership’s customer base now extended to an even larger spectrum. The banner was already catering to the luxury segment buyers with its Rolls Royce and BMW brands, and the Geely brand would now allow AGMC to tap into a more future-ready mass-market sector as well.
The Cornea Impression was further invited to test drive Geely’s new models for the Dubai market – the petrol-powered Coolray crossover and the all-electric Geometry C. Here are the first impressions of the same.Â
