The Ninth 50 Jahre M Edition Goes On Sale In India

It’s based on the X6 xDrive40i M Sport.

Occupying the penultimate spot in the 50 Jahre M Edition model introductions is the BMW X6. The limited-run version, which celebrates 50 years of BMW’s Motorsport division (M), is based on the xDrive40i M Sport variant and comes with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 1.11 crore. That makes it INR 6.5 lakh dearer than the standard X6 with the same powertrain. So, apart from exclusivity, what else will you be paying for?

On the outside, the X6 50 Jahre M Edition dons red high-gloss brake callipers, a ‘50 Jahre M’ emblem, BMW ‘Iconic Glow’ grille and a few more darkened trim pieces. Indoors, a few elements feature glass applications, and the only trim and upholstery options available are Aluminium Tetragon and Sesafin with décor stitching (Red), respectively. Also, the celebratory version is available in just two exterior colours – Carbon Black and Black Sapphire.

That’s not all, because the newcomer also offers more features, such as BMW Laserlight, Comfort Access System, 4-zone automatic climate control, lumbar support for the driver and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system. Barring those, the rest of the features list stays the same. But considering all those differences, the extra money that BMW is asking for is justifiable.

Mechanically, there are no changes. The X6 50 Jahre M Edition features a 3.0-litre turbocharged engine that offers 340hp and 450Nm of peak torque. The oomph goes to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. With that setup, BMW claims a 0-100kmph sprint time of 5.5 seconds for the X6. Flat out, it’ll clock 250kmph before the electronic speed governors kick in. And just like those performance figures, the cost for the Maintenance Packages remains the same.

It was only a couple of weeks ago when BMW India launched the M5 Competition 50 Jahre M Edition. That took the eighth place, behind those special versions of the M8 Competition Coupe and the X4. And before we flip the calendar to enter a new year, the brand will introduce the last of the 50 Jahre M Editions. What could that be?
