50 Jahre M Edition Of The M8 Launched In India

Like the six celebratory models before, it dons bespoke styling cues inside-out.

If you’re unaware, BMW is celebrating 50 years of M (its motorsport division) this year. And to commemorate that, it has been launching special editions of models. In India, it promised to introduce ten such versions and joining at number seven is the M8 Competition Coupe 50 Jahre M Edition. It comes with an eye-watering price tag of INR 2.55 crore. But then it would because it lands on the country’s shores as a direct import.

To make it stand out, BMW added some lunacy to the mix. That includes the standard M Carbon Exterior Package, which ropes in a rear spoiler, mirror caps, diffuser and air guiding elements at the front and sides, all in carbon fibre. The special edition also dons the ‘50 Jahre M’ emblem, along with even more extensive use of gloss black elements. Even the 20-inch wheels are black, while the red brake callipers inject the contrast. For the body, BMW has introduced new metallic paints – M Isle of Man Green, M Brooklyn Grey and Aventurine Red.

Not much has changed inside the carbon-rich cabin. But the car does pack full leather merino upholstery, M seatbelts and M headliner in Alcantara Anthracite. The rest of the package is the same, including the features list. That includes two-zone automatic climate control, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an equally large touchscreen infotainment system, heated front seats, a head-up display and a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

As you’d expect, there are no mechanical changes to report. The BMW M8 Competition Coupe 50 Jahre M Edition gets its kick from the twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, 8-speed automatic transmission and an active all-wheel-drive system. The powerplant offers 625hp/750Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 3.2 seconds. The car also has an M Sport Differential, which splits the power between the front and rear wheels based on the pertaining conditions.

So, how do you like the most expensive celebratory edition to date?
