Stellantis-Led Leapmotor International To Sell EVs Globally

Starting with Europe, the brand will expand operations to India, Asia Pacific, the Middle East & Africa, and South America.

Back in October 2023, Stellantis and Leapmotor, a Chinese EV startup, announced that the former had acquired a 21 per cent equity in the latter with an investment of EUR 1.5 billion. The paperwork also stated the creation of Leapmotor Internation, a 51/49 Stellantis-led joint venture (JV) between the two companies, which would have exclusive rights for exporting, selling and manufacturing Leapmotor products outside Greater China.

Well, the formation of the JV is complete. Leapmotor International, headquartered in Amsterdam and led by CEO Tianshu Xin, a former Stellantis China executive, is now reading the strategy to introduce two models – T03 and C10. Europe will get them first, specifically France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, Greece and Romania, starting in September 2024. Before the year draws to a close, Leapmotor International will launch products in the Middle East & Africa (Turkey, Israel and French Overseas), India & Asia Pacific (Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia) and South America (Brazil and Chile).

By the end of the year, Leapmotor International models will be available through 200 points of sale. That figure includes Stellantis &You locations. However, the plan is to increase that number to 500 by 2026.

The EVs? The T03 is a small five-door hatchback with a WLTP-certified range of 265km. On the other hand, the C10 has been labelled as Leapmotor’s first global product. Segmented in the D-segment, the Leapmotor C10 is an SUV that can deliver up to 420km of WLTP-certified range and boasts a 5-star E-NCAP rating. The EV recently bagged the 2024 Gold Award from the French Design Awards.
