New MG ZS EV Introduced In Select MENA Markets

Powered by a single electric motor, it offers a range of up to 385km.

In May this year, MG Motor launched its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle – the HS PHEV – in the Middle East. Now, the SAIC-backed British brand has confirmed the introduction of the new ZS EV in the region and North Africa. The compact crossover will be available in select MENA markets, including Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, and the UAE.

The new MG ZS EV is powered by a single electric motor that produces 174hp and 280Nm of peak torque. That’s enough for a 0-50kmph sprint time of 3.6 seconds. And drivers can opt among three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport. For battery, there are two choices – 51kWh and 77kWh. As per the brand, the ZS EV can travel up to 280km with the smaller battery and an additional 105km (385km total) with the larger one.

As far as the charging capabilities are concerned, the new MG ZS EV offers the convenience of both standard and fast. Depending on the battery size, the crossover can be charged up to 80 per cent in 40 minutes. That’s when using the recommended fast charger. Alternatively, the standard charging point can recharge the vehicle’s battery from zero to 100 per cent in 8.5-9 hours. And yes, the new MG ZS EV also packs a V2L reverse charging feature, enabling users to charge or run external devices using the car’s battery.

The features list includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, a 6-speaker sound system, a wireless mobile charger, multiple USB ports and a 360-degree camera system. The new MG ZS EV also comes with MG Pilot, which uses various sensors and radars to offer automated driving assistance.

MG Motor will offer the new ZS EV in two variants – COM and LUX. All derivatives will come with an 8-year/200,000km warranty on the battery. Market-wise pricing? That will be announced soon.
