MG Launches Its First PHEV In The Middle East

Further bolstering its product portfolio for the Middle East, MG Motor has launched its first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in the region. Called simply the HS PHEV, it arrives in its latest avatar. The newcomer is available in Com and Lux variants. MG Motor says that prices will be announced soon according to the market.

The 2024 MG HS PHEV has a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and an electric motor. According to MG, the total system output is 258hp/480Nm, enough for a 0-100kmph sprint time of 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 190kmph. The MG HS PHEV can also travel up to 64km on electric power alone.

And about replenishing the onboard battery, that can be done in 4.5 hours. One could even plug in the SUV to a recommended fast charger, which charges the battery up to 80 per cent in 35 minutes. MG claims an average fuel consumption of 1.8 litres per 100km. That is impressive, as is the 4.3 grams of greenhouse emissions per kilometre figure (WLTP certified).

Along with the new HS PHEV, MG Motor has also introduced the latest version of the HS. That comes with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission. Like the HS PHEV, the fossil-fuel-only-powered HS is available in Com and Lux derivatives. The latter comes with an all-wheel-drive system.

As far as the features list is concerned, it includes stuff like LED headlamps, a leather interior, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, adaptive cruise control, a Speed Assist system, auto emergency braking, Lane Departure Warning system, a 360-degree monitor, keyless entry, a rearview camera and push-button start.

The MG HS and HS PHEV are covered with a default 6-year/200,000km warranty. For the latter, the British brand also offers an 8-year/200,000km cover for the battery.
