McLaren Artura has its European debut at the Monaco Grand Prix

The Prince of Monaco drives the hybrid supercar on the street circuit

Mclaren has a new hybrid supercar called the Artura, and it recently made its European debut at the Monaco Grand Prix 2022. Instead of having either of the McLaren F1 drivers, the Artura supercar was driven by H.S.H.Prince Albert II of Monaco.

Finished in signature McLaren Orange, the Artura was brought to the street circuit for the Monaco prince to experience a flying lap across the Monaco racetrack. “We are honoured to have H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco open the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix behind the wheel of the McLaren Artura. This iconic race has special significance to McLaren back almost 60 years. Our all-new high-performance hybrid Artura distills all that racing and road car experience into a next-generation supercar which we are now thrilled to share with our customers and fans.” Gareth Dunsmore, Chief Marketing Officer, McLaren Automotive Ltd.

The Artura is McLaren’s latest offering with all-new underpinnings. It rides on brand new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA) developed by keeping McLaren’s superlight philosophy in mind. Hence, the resultant dry weight of this McLaren is just 1395kg, a class-leading figure especially considering it’s a hybrid.

Powering this Artura is a hybrid setup comprising a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with an electric motor producing a combined 671 hp. The lightweight mechanicals further allows the Artura to hit 0-96kph in three seconds. Upon launch by the end of this year, the McLaren Artura will go up against the likes of Porsche 911 Turbo and Maserati MC20, with the McLaren rounding up as the sole hybrid option.
