Mahindra unveils the all-new Scorpio-N

It gets brand new looks, modern and premium interiors with all-new underpinnings

After the original Scorpio’s two-decade-long production run, Mahindra finally unveils the all-new second-generation Scorpio called the Scorpio-N. The new Mahindra Scorpio-N comes with an overhauled design, modern interiors and new underpinnings. Mahindra will be offering the Scorpio-N in five trim levels – ranging from base Z2 to top-spec Z8 Luxury variant. Prices for the former start at INR 11.99 lakh going up to INR 19.49 lakh. These prices will remain applicable for the first 25,000 bookings only, with automatic variant prices to be announced soon.

The Scorpio-N is longer and broader than the current Scorpio, with a longer wheelbase but shorter in height. It retains its boxy silhouette but features an all-new design language comprising a new six-slate grille, LED projector headlamps and LED DRLs around the foglights. Plastic cladding surrounds the lower half of the SUV with chrome embellishments splashed on the upper half. The rear also sees an all-new tail light setup and tailgate design.

The cabin of the new Scorpio-N has been built to compete with the premium players in its segment. Hence, the dashboard is a newly-designed dual-tone unit housing an 8-inch AdrenoX touchscreen infotainment system. Depending on the variant, the instrument cluster will be offered in both analogue and digital derivatives. Top-spec trim levels will be provided with smartphone connectivity, dual-zone climate control, front and rear camera, auto start-stop, cruise control, and a 12-speaker Sony 3D surround audio system. While on the subject of trim levels, the Mahindra Scorpio-N will be available in five trims ranging from base Z2 to top-spec Z8 Luxury. The Scorpio-N can be had in both six and seven seater configurations.

Mahindra is offering both petrol and diesel power plants with the Scorpio-N. The petrol is a 2.0 turbo-petrol unit, and the diesel is a 2.2-litre engine, both lifted off its siblings – the Thar and the XUV700. The petrol engine produces 203hp petrol engine delivers 370Nm while the diesel is available in two states of tune – 132hp and 300Nm in lowered state and 175hp and 370Nm as the top-spec output. The engines can be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox. As standard, only the rear wheels will be driven in the new Scorpio-N though the higher-spec diesel derivative can also be had with four-wheel-drive. Four terrain modes – Normal, Grass/Gravel/ Snow, Mud/Rut, and Sand – for Mahindra’s new 4 XPLOR 4WD system with a low-range mode should make the Scorpio-N desirable amongst the off-road enthusiasts.

The new Mahindra Scorpio-N includes a host of safety features comprising six airbags, ESP, traction control system, hill-hold control, hill-descent control, driver drowsiness detection system and more.
