Tech giant HONOR just wrapped up its second annual ESG Sustainable Development Forum, and it wasn’t your typical snoozefest! Held at the epic Palace Museum in Beijing, the forum brought together bigwigs from business, government, and schools to brainstorm ways to make the world a greener, more equitable place.
HONOR’s Sustainability Blueprint
HONOR unveiled its 2023 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, basically a roadmap for how they’re tackling sustainability across seven key areas. This includes things like protecting the environment (duh!), using tech for good, keeping your data private, empowering young minds, and making sure their factories and suppliers are playing nice too.
George Zhao, the big cheese at HONOR, says the company’s all about “sustainable development that puts people first” and their mission is to build “a brand new intelligent world for everyone.” Sounds pretty ambitious, but hey, we like the spirit!
Levelling Up the Tech Playground for Young Creators
The forum also shone a light on HONOR’s dedication to young innovators. Their HONOR Talents Global Design Awards is a hotbed for young creative minds from around the world. Over the past four years, the competition has seen over 25,000 entries! This year’s champion, Yuan Shi, took home the top prize with “What’s Going on in the Stone,” an interactive art installation that blends history with technology in a mind-blowing way. The winning piece, along with other incredible entries, is on display at the Palace Museum right now – so cool!
Tech for Good: Bridging the Digital Divide
Another major theme? HONOR’s commitment to Tech for Good. They’re all about developing tech that works for everyone, no matter what. For instance, they’ve built features like voice reading and AI subtitles right into their devices, making them super accessible for people with vision or hearing impairments. By the end of 2023, their efforts have helped over 4.66 million people with visual impairments and over 940,000 people with hearing impairments. They’re planning to keep working with others to unlock the full potential of AI for good in the future.
Going Green for Real
HONOR are not just talking the talk, they’re walking the walk when it comes to the environment. They’ve set a goal of zero carbon emissions by 2045, and they’re putting their money where their mouth is by reducing emissions across everything they do, from making their products to running their offices. In 2023, they managed to power 8% of their operations with clean energy – that’s a win!
Greener Gadgets and Greener Factories
HONOR is designing and building products with Mother Earth in mind. Through fancy research and design techniques, careful material selection, and focus on durability and efficiency, they’ve got a whopping 128 smartphones and tablets that are certified eco-friendly. This translates to a reduction of about 876 tonnes of yucky greenhouse gases! Plus, packaging innovations they implemented in 2023 saved over 650 tonnes of carbon emissions. Talk about a green thumb!
Going Paperless and Powering Up with the Sun
HONOR is also getting smart about its everyday operations. By ditching paper in their offices and stores, they saved the equivalent of over 108 trees in 2023 alone! Their fancy Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park is a certified green factory, and their very own solar power station is expected to generate a whopping 700,000 kWh of clean electricity every year. That’s enough to power a small town!
Award-Winning Sustainability Efforts
HONOR’s dedication to ESG has been recognized by big names like Fortune China Best Designs and Bloomberg Green ESG 50. Their focus on Tech for Good, empowering young minds, and environmental responsibility puts them at the forefront of sustainable tech development. Keep your eyes peeled – HONOR is making waves, and we can’t wait to see what they do next!
