The All-New BMW 1 Series: Sharper, Greener, and Packed with Tech

Every model comes equipped with a 7-speed Steptronic dual-clutch transmission as standard. The 120 offers a maximum output of 125 kW/170 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds. The 120d delivers 120 kW/163 hp and achieves the same feat in 7.9 seconds.

BMW is raising the bar in the compact segment with the fourth generation of its iconic 1 Series. This new iteration boasts a dynamic design, a completely revamped driving experience, and a focus on sustainability throughout its lifecycle.

The 1 Series retains its signature BMW silhouette with a long hood, flowing roofline, and powerful rear end. While dimensions haven’t changed dramatically, the new model sits slightly lower and boasts a 42mm increase in overall length. The striking front end emphasises the car’s sporty character with a wider, forward-leaning grille and standard LED headlights. The side profile is characterised by a dynamic wedge shape and sleek window graphics. Standard features include the iconic BMW Hofmeister kink with the number “1” integrated into the C-pillar. A long roof spoiler and side air deflectors add to the car’s sporty flair, while the rear features vertical reflectors, a black diffuser, and striking two-part taillights extending into the sides.

Going Green Without Compromising Performance

Sustainability is a major focus for the new 1 Series. All engines feature 48-volt mild hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency, and the production process prioritizes resource conservation and material recycling. The car is also available with an optional contrasting roof finished in high-gloss black for a sportier look without sacrificing eco-friendliness.

For those seeking unparalleled performance, the BMW M135 xDrive takes the lead. This powerhouse boasts a 221 kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine, adaptive M chassis with sport steering, and intelligent all-wheel drive, propelling the car from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 4.9 seconds. Distinctive design cues like the M grille with horizontal bars, M exterior mirror caps, and quad exhaust tailpipes set it apart from the rest. The completely redesigned interior offers a modern and luxurious feel with ample space for five occupants. Standard features include newly designed seats with the option to upgrade to sport seats or M sport seats for enhanced comfort and bolstering. Perforated Veganza surfaces with leather-like properties are available for those seeking a sustainable alternative to leather. Heated seats, electric adjustments, and memory settings further personalize the driving experience, and an optional massage function adds a touch of luxury.

A focus on driver safety is evident with the inclusion of a driver and front-passenger interaction airbag as standard equipment. The cargo space can be expanded from 380 litres to 1,200 litres by folding down the rear seats, offering ample space for luggage or gear. High-quality materials, a redesigned gear selector, and the BMW Curved Display elevate the interior’s premium feel. This fully digital display system integrates a 10.25-inch Information Display and a 10.7-inch Control Display, minimizing physical buttons and controls for a sleek and modern look.

Next-generation engines and Standard 7-speed Automatic Transmission

All engines in the new 1 Series, except for the M135 xDrive, belong to the latest generation of modular engines from BMW. The three-cylinder petrol engine in the 120 and the four-cylinder diesel engine in the 120d are both paired with 48-volt mild hybrid technology for improved efficiency and responsiveness. The 118d, powered by a four-cylinder diesel engine, boasts 110 kW/150 hp and a 0-to-100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds.

Enhanced Agility and Chassis Dynamics

The new 1 Series benefits from increased body rigidity and a refined chassis connection, translating to sharper handling and improved cornering dynamics. Advanced chassis technology includes optimized kinematics, preloaded anti-roll bar mounts, and new shock absorber technology. Additionally, the increased caster on the front wheels ensures exceptional directional stability and optimized steering feedback.

Standard equipment includes direct wheel slip limitation, an integrated braking system, and 17-inch light-alloy wheels (18-inch for the M135 xDrive). The optional M Sport Package adds an Adaptive M Chassis for lowered ride height, sport steering, and 18-inch light-alloy wheels.
