Dubai Autodrome announces an advanced Level 3 Karting course

The new course would enhance the race craft skills and teach kart maintenance know-how

Karting has always been the first stepping stone into the world of track motorsports. Since 2018, the Dubai Autodrome has promoted karting among adolescent children with its Level 1 (Beginners) and Level 2 (Advanced) courses under the Dubai Autodrome Karting Academy (DAKA) after-school programme. And now, DAKA has announced a new Level 3 (Racing Club) course to enable young drivers to gain more competitive track experience and pass the racing license test.

The aim behind the Level 3 course is to build upon the racing experience gained in Level 1 and Level 2 of the same programme. This advanced course would also enhance the driver’s science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) learning through a combination of lessons that provides them with the knowledge to maintain and have hands-on experience working with these two-stroke race karts. The learning would then be tested in the competitive Sodi World Series race events.

Registrations for the Level 3 course are open. Only individuals across UAE who have graduated from Level 2 can register for the advanced course. Classes for the Level 3 course commence on 13th September.

Aspiring young drivers with minimal to no karting experience can opt for DAKA’s Level 1 and 2 courses. Open for youth aged between 7 and 16, the Level 1 course would educate participants on the essentials of karting, such as holding the steering wheel correctly, experiencing racing lines on different circuit configurations, understanding apexes and an introduction to mechanical components. Level 2 would have them develop their skills in race craft, such as overtaking and defending their track position.

Lessons for the Level 1 course begin on 15th September, while the Level 2 applicants start on 12th September. Priced at AED 3995 onwards per seat, each course comprises a total term of 10 weekly lessons.

Faisal Al Sahlawi, General Manager of Dubai Autodrome, said: “Many of the elite motorsport drivers today including the Formula One stars have taken their first steps in racing behind the wheel of a kart and gain valuable on-track experience and it’s important that we keep that trend going in Dubai. Therefore, the DAKA programme is fundamental to creating the future stars of tomorrow and we have ensured every stage of each course has been carefully planned so they understand the basics of karting such as learning the correct racing line, overtaking techniques and how to be safe on the track.”

The DAKA programme has been instrumental in pushing young drivers into the world of competitive motorsport. Among its applicants, Egypt’s 11-year-old Zain El Homassany, with Level 2 teachings, is now the UAE National Rotax Champion. At the same time, 13-year-old Oscar Lambert came second in the Sodi World Series (SWS) World Final in 2022.
