Citroen India Drives In New C5 Aircross

It’s available in just one fully-loaded variant.

Ask anyone. The Citroen C5 Aircross is a head-turner, all because of its quirky design. India first got it in April 2021. Now, the refreshed version has gone on sale. Unlike the pre-facelift version, the new one is available in just a single fully-loaded variant – Shine. It carries a price tag of INR 36.67 lakh, close to INR 3 lakh more than the previous version.

You have to say, the new C5 Aircross looks even better. Take one for a drive, and people will notice every single time. And how has Citroen managed to make it even more desirable? Well, it started with the design, specifically at the front end. The SUV now boasts a new bumper teamed with a different grille and an attractive pattern of headlamps/DRLs. The side profile reveals the swanky new 18-inch dual-tone wheels, while the taillamps have a new LED profile at the rear.

Changes don’t stop there. Riding at the dashboard’s centre is a free-standing 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 2 inches larger than before. Even the AC vents have paid a visit to the drawing board to become more conventional in shape. Then there’s the updated centre console, which ditches the gear lever for toggle switches and houses a rectangular drive mode selector. For the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, Citroen has tweaked the graphics and the interface to add to the revamp process.

Yes, even the upholstery is new. And just as refreshing as before, featuring a mix of leather and fabric. The seats, Citroen claims, have 15mm more padding for better comfort, and three second-row chairs can still recline, slide and retract. On the features front, the new C5 Aircross offers a 6-speaker sound system, dual-zone automatic climate control, auto headlamps and wipers, a panoramic sunroof, wireless mobile charger and cruise control. And the list goes on.

The new Citroen C5 Aircross is available in Pearl Nera Black, Pearl White, Eclipse Blue and Cumulus Grey. The latter three can also be teamed with a black roof to add more drama. And for that extra kick, Citroen also has two colour packs – Dark Chrome and Energic Blue. Essentially, those two finish a few elements in contrasting colours.

Powertrain? That stays the same. It comprises a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel mill that offers 174bhp/400Nm and 8-speed automatic transmission. Even though this engine-transmission combination is no longer available in Europe, it marches on as the sole propulsion system for the SUV in India. The C5 Aircross competes with the Volkswagen Tiguan, Hyundai Tucson and the Jeep Compass in the market.
