What is the new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar?

It is a monochromatic blue version of Bvlgari’s Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar. Originally launched in 2021 in titanium, it won the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix – the most prestigious award – at the Grand Prix d’Horologie de Genève (GPHG) awards ceremony held in 2021. A world record holder for an ultra-thin titanium perpetual calendar, the model was presented in CarbonGold in 2023 and sandblasted 18K rose gold in 2025.

What is its dial, case and strap features?

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar in monochromatic blue.
Image: Not just another “blue dial” but rather an all-blue monochromatic watch. The symmetrical displays are incredibly straight forward to read at a glance. The date and leap year indicator are retrograde; meaning that when the date is “31” and leap year is “L”, the hands jump back to the left. This requires an abundance of energy; quite an accomplishment given the movement is only 2.75 mm thin. The design of the Octa case is reminiscent of breathtaking Italian architecture. Bvlgari is headquartered in Rome after all.

Dial: It features a blue varnished dial. The skeletonised hour and minute hands, and the day of the week, month and leap year hands are rhodium plated. The date hand appears to be part rhodium plated and part blued. Silver-coloured hour-markers.

Case: It is made from sandblasted blue PVD coated titanium. It measures 40 mm (diameter) * 5.80 mm (thin). Dial side and caseback feature sapphire crystals. Water resistant up to 3 ATM or approximately 30 metres.

Strap: It comes with a blue alligator leather strap fitted with a pin buckle made from polished titanium.

Does its movement feature a micro-rotor?

Left: The octagonal case is only 5.80 mm thin. The polished stainless steel crown features a black ceramic insert, and contrasts well with the overall monochromatic blue and rhodium-plated and silver-coloured elements of the dial. Notice the recessed correctors for the perpetual calendar functions. Right: Notice the Platinum 950 micro-rotor on the centre right, and the slow beat balance wheel on the bottom left.

Yes. It is powered by calibre BVL 305, a manufacture automatic movement that drives the hours, minutes, and perpetual calendar functions of day of the week (between 7 and 8 o’clock), retrograde date (upper portion of dial), month (between 4 and 5 o’clock) and retrograde leap year indicator (6 o’clock). It measures 2.75 mm (thin), comprises 30 jewels, beats at a luxurious frequency of 3 Hz or 21,600 vph and delivers a power reserve of 60 hours.

What do we think?

Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar in monochromatic blue.
Image: Family picture. The original award-winning titanium version (left), sandblasted 18K rose gold (right), and the new monochromatic blue version (middle). These three versions have the same thinness of 5.80 mm. The CarbonGold version (not pictured) measures 7.60 mm (still very thin). The blue version is more attractive (at least to my eyes) than the original titanium version, and a lot less formal and as elegant as the rose gold version. It would be my pick of the three.

The Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar incorporates the design’s iconic octagonal ultra-thin case (5.80 mm) with an ultra-thin perpetual calendar movement (2.75 mm) featuring a micro-rotor and two retrograde displays! It is an unreal interpretation of this classic grand complication. Ultra-thinness is not easy to accomplish and is itself considered a complication. No wonder it won the Aiguille d’Or Grand Prix in 2021. In its new monochromatic blue avatar, it adds versatility to the design while remaining as elegant as ever.
