What is the new Greubel Forsey GMT Balancier Convexe?

The GMT Balancier Convexe is a hand-wound GMT or dual time watch that indicates a dual time zone, universal or world time and summer and winter time. This latest version extends the blue oceans of the globe onto much of the semi-open dial, crown, and the rubber strap. It is a Geneva Watch Days launch, recently held during 2^nd – 6^th September 2026.

What are its dial and case features?

Semi-open dial with off-centred indications in typical Greubel Forsey style.

The terrestrial globe is made from titanium, featuring relief engraved continents and blue treatment for the oceans. Next to it is the day and night UTC indicator made from titanium, that is both engraved and lacquered. Surrounding this is the “amphitheatre hour-ring” that is engraved. The minute circle is lacquered. Hours and minutes are indicated by two red triangles, coated with Super-LumiNova. The small seconds subdial (at approximately 5 o’clock) is made from gold, and its respective hand from polished blued steel. The GMT or dual time semi-open dial (at approximately 9 o’clock) is made from gold and indicated by a red triangle.

The case is made from titanium, measuring 42.90 mm (caseband diameter) / 44.90 mm (bezel diameter) * 15.10 mm (thickness). Height with sapphire crystals is 17.60 mm. Dial side features a curved synthetic sapphire crystal. Caseback side features a curved and high domed synthetic sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 5 ATM / 50 metres / 164 feet.

The watch comes with a dial-matching blue hand-sewn textured rubber or rubber strap (with text in relief) fitted with a folding clasp made from titanium. A 3-row bracelet made from titanium, fitted with a folding clasp and featuring “integrated fine adjustment” is an option.

Is it powered by a slow-beat movement?

Yes, the patented and sophisticated hand-wound movement that powers the GMT Balancier Convexe beats at a luxurious frequency of 3 Hz or 21,600 vph. On the dial side, it drives the hours and minutes, small seconds, GMT or dual time function, rotating globe with universal or world time, day and night UTC indicator and the power reserve indicator. On the caseback side, it drives two discs: one for the universal or world time read against each of the 24 time zones against a corresponding city, and the other for summer and winter time.

It measures 37.80 mm (diameter) * 13.80 mm (thickness), comprises 496 parts (including 59 escapement platform parts) and 72 jewels and delivers a chronometric power reserve of 72 hours, the latter a result of “two coaxial series-coupled fast rotating barrels,” with 1 turn every 3.2 hours. One barrel is equipped “with a slipping spring to avoid excess tension.

What do we think?

I was fortunate to get a sneak-peak at the GMT Balancier Convexe during Geneva watch week in April. It is absolutely mind-blowing! It is a GMT watch that is more complex than many other grand complications from other brands. The 22 fortunate owners of the tempting blue edition will not only find it useful as a GMT and world time watch but will also get mesmerised by the depth of its three-dimensional construction and the incredible craftsmanship and attention to detail.
