Wimbledon 2023 (SF) : untouchable against Sinner, Djokovic reaches the final !

The Serb needed just three sets to defeat the Italian (6-3, 6-4, 7-6).

On Centre Court this afternoon, Serbian Novak Djokovic once again revealed his irresistible talent. With this three-set victory over Jannik Sinner, he will play in his fifth consecutive Wimbledon final on Sunday. It will be against either Alcaraz or Medvedev.

It was a repeat of last year’s quarter-final. The winner was the same, but this time it was a close call. Three sets (6-3, 6-4, 7-6) were all the Serbian world no. 2 needed to see off world no. 8 Jannik Sinner. And yet, the Italian was far from missing out on his semi-final – on the contrary. He was good, even very good, throughout the match, but against such a formidable Djokovic, that’s not enough.

There was one moment that the 21-year-old Italian would certainly regret, and that was the two set points on “Nole’s” serve in the third set at 5-4. Trailing 15-40, with the crowd hoping for a double fault on his part and cheering on Sinner, Djokovic clawed back and saved his set. In the tie-break, Sinner is ahead at the start, but makes a number of unforced errors that cost him this decisive set.

Unbeaten since 2018 on London grass, Novak Djokovic will attempt to win his 24th Grand Slam title on Sunday, and his 8th Wimbledon title in the process. In doing so, he could equal Roger Federer’s record as the only player in history to have won so many titles. To do so, he will have to beat Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, or Russia’s Daniil Medvedev.
