The Volkswagen ID.7 Sheds Cover
Though still in pre-production form, it’ll launch in Europe and China this autumn.
Joining the list of Volkswagen’s pure-electric passenger vehicles is the ID.7. As per the automaker, it’s a “global electric model for the upper mid-size class”. However, the specimen unveiled is in a pre-production form. That will change soon as Volkswagen plans to introduce the ID.7 in its popular markets within 2023. More on that a bit later.
The ID.7 introduces an all-new electric powertrain. It will be available with 286hp, making it the most powerful Volkswagen ID. model. The brand also mentions the “highest torque” of any ID. vehicle, though the actual figure hasn’t been revealed yet. Another highlight comes from the battery and charging capabilities. Depending on the spec chosen, the ID.7 will offer up to 700km (WLTP) range on a single charge and can charge with up to 200kW DC feeds.
Volkswagen claims that the ID.7 measures nearly 5 metres in length and, depending on the equipment, has a drag coefficient of 0.23. Indoors, there’s a new display concept in the ID.7. The standard features include a 15-inch infotainment display, a head-up display with augmented reality and a backlit touch slider. Variants higher up the trim tree will rope in massage seats with heating, cooling and drying functions and an electronically dimmable panoramic sunroof (switch between opaque and transparent). The options list includes a 14-speaker, 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system and Travel Assist with swarm data. That last one brings in driver assistance features, such as lane changing at speeds above 90kmph and auto parking with or without the driver in the vehicle (within a 50-metre range).
As you can see, a lot hasn’t been shared. However, that will change when the ID.7 is all set to enter production. Volkswagen plans to launch the four-door coupe in Europe and China this autumn. The USA, however, will get it next year.
