Mexicana Orders 20 Embraer E2 Jets

Mexico’s state-owned carrier, Mexicana de Aviación, has placed a firm order for 20 single-aisle jets with Embraer. The order comprises an equal split between the 190-E2 and 195-E2 aircraft. While the former type will have a 108-seat layout, the latter will boast 132 seats. Both jets will have a single-class configuration. As far as deliveries are concerned, they will start in the second quarter of 2025.

Besides strengthening and modernising the fleet, the airline’s goal with this order is to boost efficiency and sustainability quotients. The check-in and baggage drop service will be available at both the metro stations mentioned above between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Check-in can be done between 12 and 2 hours before the departure time for domestic flights and between 4 and 2 hours for international flights.

easyJet To Strengthen Presence In Malta

UK’s pocket-friendly carrier, easyJet, has made two Malta-linked announcements. The first is the confirmation of a new route between Malta and Liverpool, which will go live on December 10, 2024. easyJet will operate two weekly flights on the Liverpool-Malta route, on Tuesdays and Sundays all year round.

Once live, it’ll be the fourth service in 12 months for easyJet from Liverpool. The carrier has already introduced flights to Enfida in Tunisia, Hurghada in Egypt and Corfu, a Greek island. Presently, the airline has a seven-aircraft base at Liverpool John Lennon Airport. That helps the carrier offer up to 340 weekly flights to 27 destinations.

The Liverpool-Malta route will also become the fifth new service for easyJet from Malta in the last 12 months. Previously, it had introduced flights from Malta to Bristol, Amsterdam, Basel and Nice. From Malta, the carrier will now operate 10 services across Europe.

The second development that helps strengthen easyJet’s presence in Malta is the acquisition of the SR Technics maintenance facility. The transaction will allow the airline to undertake heavy maintenance on its growing fleet, which is north of 340. The facility features a six-bay aircraft maintenance area that has served the easyJet fleet for several years.

airBaltic Jets To Boast Recaro R2 Seats

Latvian airline airBaltic has chosen Recaro Aircraft Seating to equip its fleet of Airbus A220-300s with economy class seats, specifically the R2 derivative. The seats will boast the carrier’s light grey and leather covers. They will feature a 30-inch seat pitch, an integrated headrest, comfier cushioning and a USB-C port for charging mobile devices.

The Recaro R2 will also help the airline save on operational costs. The lightweight construction helps reduce the overall weight of the aircraft, which will have a 148-seat layout. As a result, the fuel consumption will decrease.

The first airBaltic jet equipped with Recaro R2 seats is expected to enter service in 2026. Once active, the Riga-headquartered airline will become the first in Europe and second in the world to feature Recaro seats on an Airbus A220-300.
