The Shepherd Mayfair opens on 1 September 2026, and it arrives with a clear idea of what it wants to be. This is a boutique hotel rooted in its neighbourhood, not another grand address competing for attention. To mark the countdown, the hotel has also unveiled the first menu from Fayre, its signature restaurant.
What is The Shepherd Mayfair?
The Shepherd Mayfair is an 82-room boutique hotel spread across six floors. Timothy Shepherd of Shepherd& designed it as a contemporary take on Mayfair’s historic mansions. The rooms and suites feel warm and personal rather than showy, and the whole hotel leans towards quiet luxury over spectacle.
That approach sets it apart. Instead of the formality of Mayfair’s grand hotels, The Shepherd Mayfair offers something more intimate and neighbourhood-led. It wants to sit inside the daily rhythm of Shepherd Market, not above it.

What is the story behind Shepherd Market?
The setting does much of the work here. The Shepherd Mayfair stands on one of the most storied plots in the area, the site of Mayfair’s oldest house, known as ‘The Cottage’. It dates back to 1618, when a shepherd tended his flock on the land.
The surrounding fields later hosted the annual May Fair. In time, the architect and developer Edward Shepherd reshaped the quarter into the intimate urban village that still carries his name. That history runs straight through the hotel and the surrounding streets.
What are the restaurants and bars at The Shepherd Mayfair?
The Shepherd Mayfair brings three food-and-drink spaces to Shepherd Market, each shifting in mood throughout the day. Fayre, the signature restaurant, sits on the ground floor and serves seasonal British dishes across breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Alongside it, The Lounge is a relaxed café-style room with 46 covers and an outdoor terrace, good for morning coffee and neighbourhood lunches. Below, Teddy’s is a hidden late-night cocktail bar on the lower ground floor. Together, the three carry a guest from the first coffee to the last drink.

What is on the menu at Fayre?
Fayre is a 62-cover restaurant built around seasonal British produce and a few refined European classics. The snacks open things gently, with a lobster-and-prawn brioche roll and a braised beef short-rib croquette. Starters then move from a crispy duck confit salad to citrus-cured trout and scallops.
The mains keep the same generous, familiar spirit. Expect Gloucester Old Spot pork chops, beef Wellington pithivier, dry-aged steaks, and seasonal vegetarian dishes. The room matches the food, with banquette seating, dark timber panelling and a berry-toned palette, plus wall coverings by urban artist Adam Ellis that replay the theatre of the original May Fair, from livestock markets to jugglers and games of chance.
Dessert is where Fayre has its fun. The menu closes with “Puddings by the Glass”, classic puddings served tall in a glass as a nod to the spectacle of the old fair. A strawberry and Champagne trifle launches the series, and a new pudding follows each week, each drawn from the recipes and flavours of the fair’s era. The opening line-up also includes a Paris-Brest with pistachio mousseline cream and chocolate chips, a Baked Alaska with caramelised pear, hazelnut and honey, and a blackberry Bakewell tart.

When does The Shepherd Mayfair open?
The Shepherd Mayfair opens its doors on 1 September 2026 in Shepherd Market, just off Park Lane. From that day, guests and locals can book a room, take a table at Fayre, or slip downstairs to Teddy’s. The wider aim stays the same throughout: to become part of everyday life in Mayfair, rather than simply another hotel on the map.
