The new facelifted Mercedes-Benz B-Class gets launched

The new B-Class receives updated interiors and an electrified engine line-up

Like the A-Class’s recent facelift, Mercedes-Benz followed the same treatment to its B-Class compact minivan. The new B-Class facelift incorporates a revised front fascia, tweaked rear end, a host of additional creature comforts and an electrified engine line-up.

Tweaks to the front fascia include a reworked front bumper and grille and a new LED headlight setup. The rear also boasts a redesign with a new two-part LED tail light unit. The rest of the B-Class exterior design has been retained though customers have a choice of four new designs for the alloy wheels.

Various trim levels comprise different clusters of colours and materials for the cabin. The dashboard layout is new but the homogenous Mercedes dual-screen layout finds a way inside the B-Class to constitute the instrument cluster and the infotainment system. The standard offering includes a 7-inch and 10.25-inch setup though customers can ask for both screens to be of the larger 10.25-inch dimension. The rotary dial to control the infotainment screen has been deleted to make way for the latest MBUX infotainment software. This upgrade announces the added instalment of a fingerprint sensor, an improved Hey Mercedes voice assistant, and three redesigned display styles for the instrument cluster.

The standard seats supplied on the new B-Class are comfort seats. The airplane-inspired turbine air-con vents find a home on the B-Class dashboard. And rounding off the cabin changes is the new flat-bottomed steering wheel.

A host of additional driver-assistance systems are offered on the new Mercedes-Benz B-Class. Features such as an improved Lane Keeping Assist system, Active Steering Control, and an optional Trailer Maneuvering Assist function can be had on the compact minivan.

Similar to the A-Class, the B-Class now benefits from an electrified engine line-up. Most of the available engines are 48-volt mild-hybrid mills. Power outputs range between 116hp to 224hp, depending on the engine variant chosen between petrol, diesel or a plug-in hybrid option. The belt-driven starter-generator (RSG) gets equipped on the B-Class engines that help provide lesser vibrations and reduced noise upon engine startup. This equipment also allows the ‘sailing’ function on the new B-Class, which switches off the combustion engine during steady cruising.
