Pepsi to get first batch of Tesla Semi Trucks on December 1

Finally, we will be able to see the much-anticipated Tesla Semi truck on the road by the end of this year!

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk announced on Twitter that PepsiCo will be receiving the first batch of the firm’s Semi Trucks on December 1. If you’ve forgotten what a Tesla semi truck is then you’re not alone, so here’s a refresher.

The Tesla Semi Truck originally debuted in November 2017 and it was a big step up for electric trucks. At the time, Tesla claimed that it could do 0-60mph in 5 seconds with that time increasing to 20 seconds with a 36,287-kilogram trailer attached. Impressive.

Then, in 2020, Musk said that the future versions of the Semi Truck could get upto 1,000 kilometres of range with 500-800 km considered “easy” for the first batch of trucks.

Since then, Tesla updated its Semi listing in September this year with the firm correcting that the Semi truck would not have the originally announced four electric motors, instead it would be having three to power the rear axles.

When it was launched, nearly 5 years ago, PepsiCo ordered 100 Tesla Semis, Walmart Canada placed an order for 130, Anheuser-Busch reserved 40 units while Frito-Lay, a wholly owned subsidiary of PepsiCo, ordered 15 of them.

Now, finally Pepsi will be getting its 100 Tesla Semis with Elon further elaborating that they will have a 500 mile range and be “super fun to drive.” If the Tesla Semi stands up to its promise, then the EV revolution could well and truly be kicking in the trucking business.
