The 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 Returns To The 2026 Ram 1500

Ram announces the return of the 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 to the 2026 Ram 1500 lineup. The 2026 Ram 1500, equipped with a HEMI engine, features a new fender-mounted “protest badge,” designed by the Ram design team. This badge identifies the Ram head thrusting forward, powered by the HEMI V-8 engine.

The 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 engine delivers 395 horsepower and 556 Nm of torque over a smooth, broad powerband, enhanced by fuel-saving technologies, including variable camshaft timing and cylinder deactivation.

The eTorque hybrid system replaces the conventional engine-mounted alternator with a belt-driven motor-generator unit. The alternator unit operates in conjunction with a 48-volt battery pack to provide a quick and smooth engine start/stop, add torque to the engine crankshaft under specific driving conditions, and regenerate brake energy, thereby improving responsiveness and efficiency. The system delivers up to 176 Nm of torque upon initial throttle application.

Performance-enhancing features include variable valve timing, fuel-saver technology, and an 850-watt electric cooling fan that utilises pulse-width modulation to adjust fan power consumption in response to cooling demand.

The eTorque hybrid system stores energy in a compact 430-watt-hour lithium-ion battery housed in a noise-insulating enclosure behind the rear seat. The air-cooled, vented system uses two cooling fans to maintain optimal battery temperatures while maintaining sound insulation for passengers.

A 3-kilowatt DC-to-DC converter reduces the voltage to 48 volts, enabling it to charge the truck’s conventional 12-volt battery and power accessories. The 5.7-litre HEMI V-8 retains a traditional starter motor for cold-weather starts.

The new engine option offers a towing capacity of up to 5,200 kg (compliant with European homologation standards of up to 3,500 kg) and a maximum payload of 793 kg.

The Ram will be available with the legendary 5.7-litre HEMI or the 3.0-litre twin-turbo Hurricane engine. While the popular HEMI V-8 returns, the 3.0-litre twin-turbo Hurricane I-6 delivers up to 540 horsepower, making it the most potent and efficient ever in a Ram 1500.
