Tata Altroz Gains Two New Variants

The standard features list of the XE, XM+, XM+(S) and XT petrol-manual derivatives have also been improved.

The Tata Altroz has quite an extensive portfolio comprising manual, automatic, non-turbo, turbocharged, diesel, petrol and CNG derivatives. Expanding the non-turbo petrol-manual range are two new variants – XM and XM(S). While the former costs INR 6.90 lakh, the latter comes with a sticker price of INR 7.35 lakh. And both slide between the base XE and mid-tier XM+ variants with the same powertrain.

Simple math reveals that the newly introduced XM and XM(S) variants cost INR 30,000 and INR 75,000 more than the XE derivative. However, in the same order, they cost INR 55,000 and INR 10,000 less than the XM+ variant.

Features? As you’d expect, both new variants have almost identical creature comforts. The list includes full wheel covers, manual headlamp levelling, speed-sensitive door locking, a four-speaker sound system, a multifunction steering wheel, multiple drive modes, remote keyless entry and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. Only two features differentiate the new variants – the XM(S) has a sunroof and a premium knitted roof liner. That derivative makes the Altroz the least-expensive hatchback in its segment to feature a sunroof.

Besides that, Tata Motors has also enhanced the standard features list of a few non-turbo petrol-manual variants. The entry-level XE now has rear power windows, follow-me-home headlamps and remote keyless entry. The XM+ and XM+(S) have gained a rear-view camera, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, cruise control and a more premium-looking dashboard finish. Lastly, the XT variant also packs a height-adjustable driver’s seat, a rear defogger and 16-inch Hyperstyle wheels.

The powerplant in question comprises a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 87hp and 115Nm of peak torque and a 5-speed manual transmission.

The Tata Altroz competes with the Hyundai i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Toyota Glanza in India. Out of the three, the Altroz remains the only hatchback with a diesel engine option. What also works in its favour is that it was awarded a five-star safety rating for adults and a three-star safety rating for children by Global NCAP.
