5 cars with big grilles that aren’t ugly

Take note BMW designers! Cars with big grilles don’t always have to look ugly

Petrolheads all around the world have been critical about the big grilles BMW has been putting on its car. It all started with the grille on the M3 and M4 which looked like the teeth of a beaver. Then, the German carmaker’s designers slammed yet another big grille on the iX. After seeing all the social media hate BMW is getting for its big grilles made me think, do cars with a big grille always look ugly? The answer to that was: No. There have been cars with big grilles that do look good.

Ford Raptor

Let’s start with America’s version of the perfect vehicle – the Ford Raptor. Falling in the “high performance” category of pickup trucks, the Raptor has a big grille which doesn’t look bad at all. In fact, it suits the bold and brash character of the truck.

Audi RS6 Avant

Here is our beloved Audi RS6 Avant. It is a car that every car journo wants in their garage and they’re not wrong. The RS6 can do everything from taking the children to school to pulling out drifts all day long in the office car park. The extra-large grille that ranges from one headlight to the other, make the RS6 look angry and we like it.

Rolls Royce Phantom

The next car – or we should say paradise on wheels – comes from the BMW group. Rolls Royce have been giving their cars big grilles without making people’s eyes uncomfortable. BMW designers could have consulted them before putting the big grilles on their new cars, but sadly, they didn’t.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera

You might not have noticed it but the DBS does have a hexagonal grille that is quite big. The XXL grille which adds to the striking appearance of the V12 grand-tourer. Aston Martin says that the grille combines “a sense of unbounded strength with the most natural beauty.” We agree.

BMW 7 Series

The last car on the list comes from BMW. Yes, there was a time when Beamer designers used to put big-yet-mean looking grilles on their cars. We all got the indication that the designers back at Munich liked big grilles with the 7 Series. No one complained because the 7er looked great. Now though the 7er has lost the big grille, got loads of tech inside and has lost all the handsome looks of its predecessor on the outside. What has happened to BMW designers? *SOB*

If there’s a good-looking car with a big grille that I might have missed, then do let me know about it in the comments
