What is the new Rolex Perpetual Padellone?

The Perpetual Padellone is an all-new model from Rolex. An annual calendar, it is inspired by the reference 8171 “Padellone,” a model produced from the late 1940s to the early 1950s. Featuring a calendar display, it is powered by Calibre 7190, a high frequency 5 Hz automatic movement based on the Calibre 7135 with the Dynapulse escapement that made its debut in the Land-Dweller collection in 2025.

The Perpetual Padellone is offered in three references: 18K Everose gold on the Settimo bracelet, 950 platinum on a black leather strap and 18K Everose gold on a brown leather strap.

What are their dial features?

18K Everose gold – both the Settimo bracelet and leather strap references:

It displays an intense white, matt-finished, grained dial. The outer dial features a fine satin finish. The hour, minute, second and date hands and applied hour-markers (Rolex crown, faceted indices and Arabic “3” and “9”) are made from 18K pink gold. The date hand is coated with blue PVD. The moon phase disc features blue enamel with silver pad-printed stars. The full moon is crafted from meteorite with a black pad-printed face. The new moon is crafted from meteorite, coated with dark blue PVD and a silver pad-printed face.

950 platinum reference:

It displays an ice blue, matt-finished grained dial. The outer dial features a fine satin finish. The hour, minute, second and date hands and applied hour-markers (Rolex crown, faceted indices and Arabic “3” and “9”) are made from 18K white gold. The date hand is coated with blue PVD. The moon phase disc features blue enamel with silver pad-printed stars. The full moon is crafted from meteorite with a black pad-printed face. The new moon is crafted from meteorite, coated with dark blue PVD and a silver pad-printed face.

What is their case, strap, and bracelet features?

18K Everose gold – both the Settimo bracelet and leather strap references:

The case is made from 18K Everose gold, including the middle case, bezel, caseback and crown. It measures 39 mm (diameter) * 12.20 mm (thickness). Lug width is 20 mm. Dial side features a domed scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Screw-down caseback features a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating. Water resistant up to 50 metres or 164 feet.

Settimo bracelet: It consists of seven-piece solid links made from 18K Everose gold featuring a polished finish, fitted with the brand’s Crownclasp (concealed and folding) made from 18K Everose gold. Leather strap: It is a matt brown alligator leather strap featuring green calfskin lining and tone-on-tone stitching fitted with the brand’s Dualclasp (double folding) made from 18K Everose gold.

950 platinum reference:

What are its movement features?

It is powered by Calibre 7190, a Manufacture Rolex movement that drives the central hours, minutes, and seconds with a stop-seconds function; instantaneous complete annual calendar with a Haplos system, central instantaneous date, instantaneous day of the week and month via the two apertures at 12 o’clock, and moon phase display at 6 o’clock. It comprises 36 jewels, beats at a high frequency of 5 Hz or 36,000 vph and delivers a power reserve of approximately 66 hours. The movement is accurate to -2/+2 seconds per day after casing.

Movement features include: Dynapulse escapement made from silicon, Syloxi hairspring in silicon, ceramic balance staff, variable inertia or free-sprung balance wheel featuring two gold Microstella nuts for high-performance regulation, high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers and a bidirectional automatic winding rotor.

The patented Haplos system differentiates between months with 30 days and 31 days, meaning that manual adjustment is required only once a year at the end of February. A patent has been filed for the instantaneous functions. The day of the week and month via two apertures and the date via the central hand “change simultaneously in a fraction of a second, ensuring perfect alignment of the calendar markers.” While these two patents are exclusive to the Perpetual Padellone, Calibre 7190 is protected by 28 other patent applications, mostly from Calibre 7135 that powers the Land-Dweller.

What do we think?

For Rolex, a brand renowned for industrial haute horology baked to perfection and a recognizable design identity second to none, the all-new Perpetual Palledone is a pleasant surprise. It showcases a new side to the brand, one whose recent journey includes new collections (1908 and Land-Dweller), colorful dials (lacquered dials on the Oyster Perpetual), movements debuting revolutionary tech (high frequency movement with the Dynapulse escapement) and transparent casebacks (on select models, perhaps a gradual trend for the brand).

2026 has been an interesting year for the annual calendar. Patek Philippe unveiled new versions of existing models: Reference 4946G-001 and Reference 5396R-016, both powered by automatic movements. The latter celebrates the 30^th anniversary of the annual calendar, a Patek Philippe invention that debuted in Reference 5035 in 1996. A. Lange & Söhne debuted the Saxonia Annual Calendar, the second iteration of this model now featuring a 36 mm case size and a new automatic movement. A gorgeous watch, it was among my top picks from Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026. Renowned independent watchmaker Laurent Ferrier recently unveiled the Classic Moon Dusk. Powered by a manual winding movement, it is aesthetically closest in style to the Perpetual Padellone.

Do I like the Perpetual Padellone? Yes, I do. I cannot get the 18K Everose gold on the Settimo bracelet out of my mind.

Do I think it is perfect? No. I have one aesthetic quibble. The apertures for the day of the week and month along with “Rolex” and the Crown logo are a tad too high. I wish it were positioned slightly lower. I am sure this is because of movement construction and technical reasons. It is definitely not a deal breaker.
