In addition to focusing its future on high-performance electric models and alternative fuels in competition, Porsche also likes to remember its winning past. The German brand is now paying tribute to the 356 S Cabrio that won the 1952 Carrera Panamericana with a unique 911, the Carrera Panamericana Special. The car will soon be auctioned off in the US for charity.
The blue metallic paintwork, for example, is exclusive and contrasts with the grey soft top, a combination that has never been seen on a 911 before. The grille is painted in black lacquer, while the doors display the race number 11. The Mexican flag under the mirrors and the white Porsche lettering on the top of the windscreen are also noteworthy. The black rims (20 inches at the front and 21 inches at the rear) hide black brake calipers. The engine cooling grilles at the rear are white.
On board, the Carrera Panamericana Special features white leather upholstery with blue stitching. The headrests are embossed with La Carrera Panamericana and a vintage driver’s helmet. For comfort, the electric seats are adjustable in 18 ways. The dashboard has a body-coloured insert with the La Carrera Panamericana 1952 inscription facing the passenger.
The same insert is illuminated on the door sills. In addition, the Carrera Panamericana Mexico plaque is projected onto the floor. The instrument panel and the clock are painted white. The key of this unique model is painted in metallic blue and features the laser-engraved inscription La Carrera Panamericana. The whole unit is presented in a slate grey casing.
Under the bonnet, however, there are no changes. The 911 Carrera S is still based on a 3.0-litre flat six with 450 PS and 530 Nm of torque. All this power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic transmission.
