New Volkswagen ID.3 Debuts Next Spring

Order books for the German market are already open.

Volkswagen has confirmed that in the Spring of 2023, the second-generation ID.3 will be unveiled to the public. As you’d expect, VW hasn’t shared much about the upcoming EV. However, it does leave a few hints, one of them being – implementing many of the customers’ suggestions. Also, the new ID.3 will have a carbon-neutral delivery, while the interior contains no animal-derived materials.

Fret not, there are a few details that help us paint a better picture. For instance, the new ID.3 will boast the latest software, which, besides improving performance, also enables OTA updates. Moreover, a 12-inch touchscreen control centre, a removable luggage compartment floor and a centre console with two cup holders will be part of the standard equipment list.

The new ID.3 will also get Plug & Charge and the Electric Vehicle Route Planner features. Volkswagen claims both these features will help improve the charging experience. Fully integrated assist systems are also available, where highlights include Travel Assist with Swarm Data and the Park Assist Plus with Memory function. Both those gizmos, however, are optionally available.

Those residing in Germany can order the new ID.3 in pre-configured Life, Business, Style, Max and Tour derivatives. The starting price is 43,995 euros, and those ordering now should only expect deliveries sometime in quarter four of 2023. To tackle the high demand for the ID.3 model, Volkswagen will start manufacturing it at the Wolfsburg factory next year. That’s in addition to the Zwickau and Dresden plants that already produce the model in question.

It was back in October 2020 when deliveries of Volkswagen’s first pure-electric offering – the ID.3 – began. Since then, more ID. models have joined VW’s battery-electric portfolio, including the recently launched ID.Buzz. The range has been so successful that the worldwide deliveries counter surpassed 500,000 last month. Volkswagen managed to achieve that figure a year in advance than its original goal. That’s especially impressive because the automotive industry has been battling supply chain issues due to the infamous pandemic.

Volkswagen is on a mission – by 2030, all-electric vehicles to account for at least 70 per cent of overall sales in Europe, and more than 50 per cent in the USA and China. By 2033, it aims to produce only EVs in Europe.
