MMA – UFC 291: Poirier vs Gaethje 2, all results from the main card

Poirier vs Gaethje, Blachowicz vs Pereira... UFC 291 results

On Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Utah, UFC 291 lived up to all its promises. Submissions, spectacular knockouts and hard-fought bouts were the order of the day, including the rematch between Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje to crown the new BMF champion.

Holland vs Chiesa

The main card kicked off with a battle between two Americans, Kevin Holland and Michael Chiesa. And the duel was short-lived. After a clinch, Holland threw some knees and then brought Chiesa to the ground and tried to submit him. After just 2 minutes and 39 seconds in round 1, Kevin Holland won by submission (“D’arce Choke”). At the age of 30, “Trail Blazer” now boasts 19 career UFC victories.

Ferguson vs Green

Fights come and go for Tony Ferguson. With each new defeat, it seems to be one too many for “El Cucuy”. This was his 6th consecutive defeat, and it was Bobby Green who inflicted it on him in impressive fashion. In the dying moments of the 3rd and final round, Green wins by submission. Instead of tapping out, Ferguson let himself fall asleep.

Lewis vs de Lima

Before entering the octagon, Derrick Lewis and Marcos Rogerio de Lima have quite different dynamics. The American is on a rather downward slope, while the Brazilian has won four of his last five fights and is approaching the Top 10 at heavyweight. But from the very first seconds, Lewis, known for his offensive style and uncommon power, struck a blow. He immediately attacks the Brazilian with a jumping knee to the chin to send him to the ground, then finishes him off with a TKO for a spectacular victory.

Blachowicz vs Pereira

In the heavyweight category, this was the fight to win. At stake was a very likely opportunity for a title match, the belt having been vacated by Jamahal Hill following his injury. And in the evening’s co-main event, after three rounds and a split decision, Brazilian Alex Pereira won his first fight in the category.

Poirier vs Gaethje 2

A spectacular finish to this dream match. After a fast-paced first round, the two Americans set off to wage another merciless war. But right at the start of the second round, Justin Gaethje brutally sends Dustin Poirier to the mat with a head kick. With this victory, “The highlight” takes the BMF title (honorific belt), the organization’s title, and looks set for a match for the lightweight world title.
