Mercedes-AMG Drives In The GLE “Edition 55”

You can have the celebratory treatment in six variants, but only until December this year.

If you haven’t been paying attention, the year 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of Mercedes-AMG. And as part of the celebrations, we’ve seen multiple models receive treatment under the banner “Edition 55”. Joining the list and rounding off the “Edition 55” range is the Mercedes-AMG GLE. The celebratory package is available in six variants – SUV and Coupe versions of 53, 63 and 63 S. However, you can opt for it only until December this year.

Of course, you’ll have to pay extra to get the “Edition 55” embellishments. How much? We’ll come to that later. First, let’s focus on what is included in the package. On the outside, there’s a film with the AMG emblem and an AMG diamond. That’s accompanied by the 22-inch forged AMG cross-spoke wheels finished in matt tantalum grey with a shiny rim collar. Even the wheel hubs flaunt the “Edition 55” lettering. And the options for the paint include obsidian black metallic and diamond white bright from the brand’s Manufaktur section.

That’s not all for the exterior. The Night Package also comes into the equation, glossing out the front splitter, trim strips on the front and rear aprons, ORVM caps, and window surrounds. The Mercedes-AMG GLE “Edition 55” also features chrome-plated twin exhaust outlets and dark-tinted glass behind the B-pillar. And what acts as a cherry on top of a cake is the silver chrome fuel filler cap with AMG lettering. That comes into light only after the outer lid is opened.

Welcoming the front occupants inside are the stainless steel door sills with red illuminated AMG lettering. Complementing them are black AMG floor mats with stitching and “Edition 55” branding woven in red. Then there’s the steering wheel, which is draped in Dinamica microfibre and dons “AMG” and “55” badges. Even the AMG seats boast the red-and-black scheme in Nappa leather. And if equipped with exclusive Nappa leather AMG (standard on 63 S variants), the door panels and centre console also receive the same colour combination.

Unsurprisingly, there are no mechanical changes to report. So, the 53 models pack a turbocharged 3.0-litre engine with 435hp/520Nm, whereas the 63 versions house a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 with 571hp/750Nm on tap. The 63 S variants offer the most oomph, with power and torque figures recorded at 612hp and 850Nm, respectively. All come with 9-speed automatic transmission and the 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system.

Now, for the “Edition 55” price. Depending on which variant you start with, the extra amount will range between 5,950 and 13,090 euros. Though a bit pricy, it won’t be around for long.
