Levis celebrates its 150th anniversary with four new fits and finishes

The collection comprises a special birthday selvedge and vintage crafts finish

It was in 1873 when Levi Strauss & Co. was granted a patent on the process of riveting pants, and since then, these simple work pants have transformed into a timeless icon of fashion. May 20th, 2023 marks the 150th anniversary of that red letter day for the fashion house, and the brand has lined up some exclusive launches to commemorate this special occasion. Levi’s signature offering, the 501 jeans, has grown over the years, and the anniversary celebrations will see the brand introduce a new range of finishes and fits.

The expanded 501 jeans family would now feature a special birthday selvedge, banner prints, vintage crafts, and distinct embellishments variations, courtesy of the 150th anniversary. The most anniversary-dedicated iteration is the birthday selvedge finish that boasts a speciality selvedge ID with “150 years of 501 ® jeans” woven in. Available to both men and women, this rigid Shrink-to-Fit denim pays homage to the original manufacturing style of 501 jeans.

The banner print finish takes inspiration from original dry goods signage from the ‘30s to the ‘50s while also nodding to the history of print. Available in shorts, jeans, tops and hats, the new prints on beloved 501 ® classics feature bright colours that proudly pop and can be styled casually with denim. The vintage craft collection features a vintage-inspired craft and patchwork finishes available across 501 originals, shorts and trucker jackets. These vintage craft offerings reiterate the power of personal self-expression while making them more personal to the wearer. The newly introduced embellishments collection will boast metal studs and rhinestones on 501 originals, jackets and tees, helping the wearing shine from head to toe.

“As we celebrate 150 years of the Levi’s ® 501 ® jeans, we also commemorate 150 years of a beloved global icon of culture, enduring style, and authentic self-expression,” said Karyn Hillman, Chief Product Officer at Levi Strauss & Co. “The 501 has transcended from pure utilitarian workwear to an everyday uniform adopted by fans around the globe, across multiple generations. With such a monumental anniversary for the brand, we’ve leaned into our history while threading through innovation and modernity to bring a unique and exciting range of our 501 family to life for today.”

The new range of finishes of the Levi’s ® 501 ® jeans fits is now available across retailers in UAE and KSA.
