Lancia spills details about its new product line-up

Lancia’s new flagship will be called the Ypsilon

From being unbeatable in rallying to pioneering performance-centric feature introduction in road cars, Italian carmaker Lancia enjoyed an illustrious career back in the day. But a lacklustre product line-up since then meant the brand failed to capitalize on its rich history in the modern era. Though the future might hold an entirely different story as Lancia, along with new parent conglomerate Stellantis, aims to earn back its mojo.

Besides building fast machines in the past, Lancia had gained a reputation for designing beautiful cars. Now, the Italian carmaker vows to redeem itself by drawing design inspiration from its most celebrated models of the past and launching an all-new product line-up. November 28th will witness the brand celebrate the Lancia Design Day and describe the “design elements which inspired the three new models of the future.”

The design will remain key in all of Lancia’s forthcoming all-electric models. ‘Moving masterpieces’ is how Luca Napolitano, Lancia CEO, aspires for the look of the future models as he further spilled the beans on these upcoming new cars. He was noted announcing, “This includes the new Ypsilon in 2024, our new flagship which will allow us to enter Europe’s biggest segment, and the sculpted and muscular new “Delta” in 2028 with its geometric lines which will excite car enthusiasts throughout Europe.”

The CEO believes Lancia of the future should be seen as a “Progressive Classic” brand, “where “Classic” means leveraging and respecting the value of our heritage, while “Progressive” entails our ability to look to the future with ambition.”

Three distinct design elements will feature in three distinct models. A modern interpretation of the ‘calice’ seen on the front grille of the Lancia Aurelia and Delta will be making its way. The three new models will display sinuous lines on their sides, a typical feature of the historical Lancia Aurelia B20. Lastly, geometric-primitive forms on both the front and the rear, seen last on the rear taillights of the legendary 037, Stratos, and Delta, will also be present.

The upcoming Lancia Ypsilon is touted to be a minivan with the Delta nameplate being resurrected as a modern hatchback.
