Remember the Lancia Design Day from November last year? In a nutshell, the Italian brand showcased the way forward into the electric mobility era. Besides the redesigned logo, the company presented Lancia Pu+Ra Zero – a 3D sculpture depicting Lancia’s new design form. And just for the record, ‘Pu+Ra’ is made from ‘Pure’ and ‘Radical’. Furthermore, Lancia confirmed that three new EVs, slated to launch between 2024 and 2028, will carry the new design language.
Fast-forward to today, the brand has given us the first glimpse of the Lancia Concept using two teaser images. Luca Napolitano, Lanca CEO, confirms that “the Lancia Concept is the brand manifesto for the next ten years. It is a 100 per cent electric concept car which represents the evolution of the Lancia Pu+Ra Zero.” He goes on to add:
The Concept is the first vehicle of Lancia’s new era that includes features which will be present on future models in terms of design, sustainability, technology and electrification.
As you can see, not much is visible in either of the images. But there are a few design cues that are worth mentioning. Heading the list is the circular glass roof, which, Lancia says, “guarantees a panoramic view”. Then there are the round taillights, reminiscent of the iconic Stratos and wedged between them is the Lancia brand lettering. And lastly, the horizontal lines on the rear glass. That honours the “Venetian-blind-inspired structure” of the 1970s Lancia Beta HPE.
It is a concept vehicle. So taking things too seriously is a gamble. But the way Lancia has managed to blend certain design elements from its past models with a modern touch is inspiring. The brand will unveil the Lancia Concept in full on April 15, 2023, at an event named “Emozione Pu+Ra”.
