What is the kollokium 02 (K, P–n°02) Variant C?
The kollokium Projekt 02 (K, P–n°02) Variant C is the third version of the project’s second model. The first variant was the Projekt 02 (K, P–n°02) Friends, Family, Fools and Flippers Edition (FFF&F) and the second was the Projekt 02 (K, P–n°02) Variant B, the first publicly available model.

The Variant C is a lighter version of this super cool watch. According to kollokium, it “is stepping out of the darkness and fully embracing brightly saturated light. Summer vibes and all that.”

Who are the founders of kollokium?

Founded in 2020, kollokium is the brainchild of Amr Sindi, Nicolas Barth Nussbaumer and Manuel Emch – three watch industry friends. Manuel Emch is also the CEO of Louis Erard, renowned for its exciting collaborations accessible to a broader watch collecting audience. The three founders define kollokium as a “project-based platform” with a vision to “explore accessible alternatives in watchmaking.”
What are its dial features?

Its topographical dial features 67 bright rhodium plated, and matte finished stacked dial plates that are painstakingly hand crafted, painted and assembled. The dial plates are coated “with a vertical gradient of lacquer in 9 tones from white to turquoise blue, infused with blue emission Super-LumiNova.” The turquoise blue hour and minute hands feature applied white Lichtblock™ elements and are coated with Super-LumiNova (blue emission). The white seconds hand features a bent triangle shaped counterweight.
“While retaining the same overall design with an emphasis on volume as its predecessors, the third interpretation of Projekt 02’s topographical dial gets a bit more literal, with the color gradient of white to blue giving the impression of islands scattered in an archipelago, or even glaciers below mountain peaks.”
What are its case and strap features?

Its monobloc case is made from 316L stainless steel, measuring 39.5 mm (diameter), 5.9 mm (without sapphire crystal), and 12.4 mm (with sapphire crystal). Dial side features a cylindrical shaped glass box sapphire crystal. Water resistant up to 5 ATM or approximately 50 metres. The watch comes with a turquoise blue elastic textile single-piece strap fitted with a “hook” buckle made from die-cast stainless steel.
“One of the things that we believe makes kollokium stand out from the rest is our approach to making cases. Instead of the tried and tested methods of CNC milling or stamping (yuck), we use a method that isn’t commonly found in watchmaking: diecasting. By working with a mold, the molten 316L stainless steel can take on forms that would be difficult to achieve with other methods, while also exhibiting a unique matte texture that requires no finishing. It’s steel in all its raw glory.”
Is it powered by an automatic movement?

Yes. It is powered by La Joux-Perret G101, a Swiss Made automatic movement with a uni-directional rotor that drives the central hours, minutes, and seconds with a stop seconds function. It measures 26 mm (diameter) * 4.45 mm (thickness), comprises of 24 jewels, beats at a modern rate of 4 Hz or 28,800 vph and has a power reserve of approximately 68 hours.
What do we think?

During Dubai Watch Week in November last year, my boss Shivaum and I had several meetings with the CEOs of prestigious watch brands. Two of them were captivated by Shivaum’s M.A.D.Editions M.A.D.2 Green edition, a nightclub-inspired watch crafted by MB&F and (coincidently) powered by the same La Joux-Perret G101 movement as the kollokium.
This got me thinking. Why would CEOs of brands that craft split-seconds chronographs, flying tourbillons and minute repeaters without batting an eyelid obsess over a playful watch priced at CHF 2,900? Yes, the brands these CEOs lead are packed with heritage, tradition, in-house technical expertise, decorative arts and gem setting expertise and other equally important attributes. They are important to the watch industry, to a global community of watch enthusiasts and collectors (including myself) and to the broader ecosystem of authorised retailers, auction houses and secondary market dealers, among others.
Yet as human beings we must let our hair down occasionally. And I suppose this is what those CEOs did while admiring the M.A.D.2. And this is exactly what Messrs. Sindi, Nussbaumer and Emch achieved with the kollokium collaboration.

Their press material is not politically correct (horologically speaking); they say it as it is. What they like, what they do not like and why they do things a certain way. As someone who loves haute-horology watches where the hidden movement parts are meticulously finished to the exact same standards as the visible components, kollokium’s nonchalant honesty is incredibly refreshing and appealing. Referring to the movement’s unsigned automatic winding rotor, they mention that they “had nothing to do with the movement, it was decided to leave it completely unbranded and unadorned. It’s not like you can see it anyways.”
The kollokium Projekt 02 (K, P–n°02) Variant C, just like the FFF&F and Variant B before it, is a masterclass in creativity and design, dial construction and lume, and honesty and unbridled joy. It can belong in any watch collection, whether it is a watch enthusiast just starting out or an experienced collector unboxing his or her piece unique minute repeater. Trouble is that there will only be 299 pieces. So, you will need to hurry.
