Frauscher x Porsche Fantom Air Packs 536hp

With a 25-unit production limit, the electric boat will debut in January 2024.

Porsche dropped a teaser comprising sketches of two completely different vehicles a few months ago. And with it, the German brand confirmed that a boat called the 850 Fantom Air is on the way. Why, you may wonder, did Porsche bother to report an upcoming vehicle that cannot work on land? Well, besides pitching in with design elements for the cabin, the carmaker also injected the boat with the powertrain from the next-gen Macan EV.

Now, we have some numbers to put things in perspective. The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air (eFantom) boasts components of Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which also does duty in the new-gen Macan. The bits carried over include an electric motor with power limited to 536hp, the supporting power electronics, the 800-volt electrical architecture and a 100kWh battery. The boat also has four driving modes – Docking, Range, Sport and Sport Plus. Like in cars, each mode is pre-programmed to perform in a particular manner. The Docking mode, for example, is meant for harbour driving with the speed limited to eight knots (15kmph).

The eFantom’s optimum cruising speed is 22 knots (41kmph). Porsche claims that the boat can cruise for about an hour or 45 kilometres at this speed. The range is extended to over 100km at hull speed. However, up to 46 knots (85kmph) can be achieved in the Sport Plus mode. With a mix of slow and high-speed travel, usual for a typical trip, the eFantom’s battery can run for 2-3 hours. That, however, will depend on the driving profile.

Speaking of the battery, it can be charged using DC feeds of up to 250kW. That can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in under 30 minutes. Of course, it can take AC feeds as well. An 11kW AC charger is part of the standard kit. That features list also includes two folding bimini tops, Wi-Fi connectivity, a Bluetooth-compatible sound system, a 12-inch touchscreen display, an electric stainless steel anchor and chain, ambient lighting and a cooling compartment. Upholstery customisation is possible, too, as Porsche offers the entire colour range for the eFantom that it does for its cars and SUVs.

The Frauscher x Porsche 850 Fantom Air is based on the Frauscher 858 Fantom Air day cruiser. The former will make its world premiere in January 2024 at the “boot” trade fair in Düsseldorf. The initial plan is to make 25 First Edition units, each starting at EUR 561,700 net. Frauscher will build the eFantom at its Shipyard in Ohlsdorf, Austria, and deliveries will begin in 2024 only.
