Flying Start for the Gunners, Stroll for the Citizens

Arsenal put on a show to beat Leicester Foxes (4-2) and at the same time, Manchester City did not force their way past Bournemouth Cherries (4-0).

After Aston Villa’s 2-1 victory over Everton in the opening game of the second day of the Premier League, Arsenal and Manchester City were playing at 4pm. They respectively hosted Leicester and Bournemouth with the aim of getting 6 points out of 6 in this early part of the season, something that the Gunners and Cityzens achieved with brio. On the one hand, Gabriel Jesus was a dynamic and inspired player, on the other hand, Kevin De Bruyne was a class act.

Arsenal shine in front of their home crowd

Gabriel Jesus was the man of the match with two goals and two assists, and he made his mark on his first official appearance at the Emirates Stadium. The Brazilian striker was the catalyst for the Gunners’ excellent start to the game, and he made it happen with a brilliant strike in the 23rd minute. He was played into the box by Granit Xhaka. He had no momentum and was surrounded by the Foxes, but he didn’t care and sent a wonderful curling shot into the top corner of Danny Ward’s net. Almost ten minutes later, he doubled the lead as a true opportunist this time. Jamie Vardy’s header was misplaced at the far post, and the Gunners’ No. 9 had a free header.

Arsenal managed the match perfectly despite some errors in the second half that allowed Leicester to reduce the score twice. William Saliba’s unfortunate own goal led to a header past Ramsdale for 2-1 and then a defensive error by Zinchenko led to James Maddison’s goal for 3-2. In the attacking game, however, the Ukrainian showed himself to be very comfortable. Xhaka had scored the third goal after Danny Ward had made a big mistake, and Gabriel Martinelli then scored the fourth for the Gunners to make it 4-2. Jesus, again, led the red-and-white attack and set up his compatriot Martinelli, who fired a low, cross-shot with his left foot to send the Emirates crowd into raptures once again. The Gunners will now travel to Bournemouth, who were beaten by City.

Health walk for City

Pep Guardiola’s men had done the job by the end of the first half, taking the score to 3-0. It was Ilkay Gundogan who opened the scoring in the 19th minute, perfectly served by Norwegian terror Erling Haaland. The Belgian maestro Kevin De Bruyne then decided to continue the dance by embarking himself on the edge of the penalty area before setting off a series of leg sweeps to give the defender a run for his money and finishing with a fine outside foot between the last two Cherries defenders. The Belgian then set up a brilliant opening for English genius Phil Foden, who calmly finished off the move to give his side a three-goal lead.

In the second half, the Skyblues were not particularly worried by the promoted Bournemouth and were able to score the fourth goal of the game with the unfortunate Colombian Jefferson Lerma sending the ball into his own net. City will be looking for a third win in as many games at St. James’ Park against Newcastle, who drew with Brighton today (0-0).
