Electric Countryman To Offer Around 450km Range

It’s destined to become the first Mini to be produced in Germany.

It isn’t a secret that the next-gen Mini Countryman will be an all-electric affair. Besides entering the third generation, the British brand’s “compact SUV” will also claim the title of becoming the first Mini to be produced in Germany. Where? At BMW Group’s Leipzig plant. And when will that begin? In November 2023.

To kill some of the waiting time, Mini has released some details about the pure-electric Countryman. Starting with the Countryman E variant, it’ll have a single electric motor with 191hp. However, those looking for a bit more punch can settle for the Countryman SE All4 version, which will have a dual-motor configuration – one on each axle. Mini says the total output will be 313hp, including a temporary boost function. The battery capacity is 64.7kWh, enough for an estimated range of 450km.

In terms of dimensions, the third-gen Mini Countryman will be 130mm longer (4,429mm) and 60mm taller (1,613mm) than its predecessor. According to the carmaker, the battery-powered SUV will offer a more spacious room for occupants.

Making a car that offers zero emissions locally is something that many players are doing. But Mini will infuse environmental production techniques while building the electric Countryman. For instance, dispensing with all decorative elements outdoors and indoors and producing the cast light-alloy wheels from up to 70 per cent secondary aluminium. In addition, the production facility will use green electricity. Lastly, the surfaces of the dashboard, steering wheel, headliner, floor and floor mats are made of recycled polyester extracted from PET bottles and carpet remains. Using these alternate materials over traditional ones will reduce CO2 emissions along the value chain by up to 85 per cent.

Pretty neat! Expect Mini to continue teasing the all-electric Countryman over the coming months. And in that process, we’ll get to learn more about it.
