Dubai’s Museum of the Future hosts Audi’s AI:CON luxury sedan concept car
The AI:CON will set a precedent for exterior and interior design for future Audi sedans
Dubai’s Museum of the Future and Audi Middle East have a longstanding partnership which allows the luxury automaker to showcase its futuristic concept cars within the iconic museum of the UAE. Earlier this year, Audi exhibited Ken Block’s S1 E-Tron Quattro Hoonitron EV drift car at the futuristic venue. Now, the Museum of the Future will house an Audi that shall set the design tone for future luxury sedans from the carmaker – the Audi AI:CON.
The AI:CON becomes the third and the latest in the line-up of Audi’s concept and racing cars, succeeding the AI:RACE and S1 Hoonitron. Audi claims the AI:CON is a four-door 2+2 luxury sedan that exhibits the exterior and interior design of the following decades. The keen-eyed would notice the absence of conventional headlights and taillights in this concept study as it gets replaced by fully digital display surfaces comprising hundreds of triangular pixel segments capable of creating versatile graphics and animations.
The expansive and luxurious cabin of the Audi AI:CON makes do with other traditional automotive elements, such as the steering wheel and the dashboard, to create a sense of openness. The seats feature a lounge chair-inspired architecture with pillow-like upholstery. Touch-sensitive control panels can cater to the individual preferences of each passenger.
Furthermore, passengers can enjoy movies, web browsing, video conferences, and social media interaction. Depending on their seat, they can use the large front display or a virtual head-up image on the windshield. The glass roof panels can block sunlight and adjust transparency with an electric voltage. Audi claims the AI:CON provides a new level of mobility, allowing passengers to work, communicate, relax, and even nap while the car autonomously and safely navigates.
Powering the Audi AI:CON is an electric drivetrain incorporating four electric motors located in the front and rear axles. The combined output is recorded at 348hp (or 260kW) and 550Nm torques, with efficiency and range as the top priority. Audi targets a range of 700 to 800 kilometres on a single charge because of its lightweight construction and optimised aerodynamics.
The Audi AI:CON is on display at the Museum of the Future as part of the “Tomorrow Today” exhibition until September 20th.
